BUG?: MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio stream render crash

noisywan wrote on 11/30/2022, 7:08 AM

Vegas 20 (b.214) crashes when video stream is turned off in `MainConcept MPEG-1` > `VCD PAL` template custom settings.

Is it just me or it crashes on your system too?
Can anyone please confirm?

Test project (1.2 MByte)

Here is how to recreate;

1) Insert a video and an audio track event into a new project.

2) Try rendering with MainConcept MPEG-1 > VCD PAL template (enter Customize Template menu and turn off Include Video Stream)

Unable to duplicate; working fine here.

If you want your file checked, use a mainstream upload site like Drive or Dropbox.

My project. Vegas Pro 20-214 on my laptop.

Oh sorry, I had turned off the audio stream.

Why do you want VCD, an ancient video format, without video, when you can make an audio CD?

You can save the video and audio as separate elementary streams in the VCD template. Would that help you along with your experiment?

@noisywan Thanks for letting us know! We have reproduced it and have added a bug report for this issue to our backlog.

@Musicvid I've been using this method with Vegas 12 for exporting audio to a broadcasting software named RCS. MPEG1_Layer_2 is RCS's native format, therefore the system ingests it directly with stream-copy method. It's faster than any other method and no cpu time is needed for re-encoding. Recently we upgraded our workstations and encountered this error with Vegas 20.

@john_dennis Thank you.

@VEGASnate Thank you.

Does this help?

@Musicvid I didn't know that option existed. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll test that as soon as I get to the studio and let you know.

@noisywan

Elementary streams work for me.

john_dennis wrote on 11/30/2022, 4:43 PM

@VEGASnate

That "feature" was introduced in Vegas 18. Vegas 17-455 worked as @noisywan expected.

Vegas Pro 18

Vegas Pro 19

Yes, 😃 it works here too as expected and the audio stream file is all ok for ingestion.

Thank you @Musicvid and @john_dennis

Glad to hear it. And thanks for reporting the bug.
