Seems like you can't change the Constant Bit Rate but must use the numbers in the pulldown. But couldn't you use Variable Bit rate and make the Maximum and the Average exactly the same, hence constant at the number you desire?

The pitfall of CBR is that if you cap it high, it's terribly wasteful. If you set it lower, motion quality is is low. 2 pass, with a decent minimum bitrate, is far more efficient and better quality, because the bits are sent where they are needed..

I was too lazy to check the ability to enter a custom number in CBR, so thanks again, xberk!

In V13, when I render using the Mainconcept AVC/ACC mp4, the constant bitrate settings go from 4mbps to 10mbps.

Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong?

No, you're not missing anything other than the point of the OP's post which is that there are no values between 4,000 and 10,000.

@EricLNZ

Thanks, my mistake. I was not yet fully awake, I think.😌

@YesMaestro is Sony AVC an option for you? It's variable nit rate but you can set it to your liking and I think it is tighter than MainConcept. I've never done a side by side quality or file size comparison, and not sure what you are trying to accomplish, but perhaps it is an alternative that will work for you. Or, perhaps you have already considered it and for whatever reason don't like it.

During only working with VPro 13 my preference was always for the Sony AVC. In mine ( and not only mine) opinion on our Dutch forum we always promoted that one above the MC that was older and slower with mostly bigger files.

Eagle Six I took a look at Sony AVC and it was in the same boat. It only offers 4 and 10 with no options in between. I'll try it so see if I get a smaller file size using it. Thanks

Those needed bitrates in-between can be set manually.

If you want to stay with Mainconcept and you want to tighten up the range of the bit rate, use VBR 2 Pass and set the range as tight or as loose as you wish.

VBR One Pass 6-8 Mbps

 VBR Two Pass 6-8 Mbps

YesMaestro wrote on 2/9/2019, 1:03 PM

Wow, I have been using Vegas since Version 3 and no idea that I could manually type in values for the VBR. I know you can't in the CBR field. Thanks John! I'm trying it now to see how it goes.

I'm not John, but I told the same.

Thanks 3POINT, I saw it but didn't get it until the photos were posted. Thanks for the info.
