Cannot Import MTS Files from Sony HD Camera

Tony_P wrote on 3/1/2017, 12:29 AM

I can not import my Sony HD camera MTS video files into VMS14.  I can import them into VMS 10 with no problem.  I can also open a project in VMS 14 that was created in 10 that has the same MTS files and it works fine.  When I try to open the MTS files via the add button under project media, it says the files are not supported.  How can that be?.  They have been supported in all other versions of VMS.  Please help.

It's a known issue, maybe comes a fix.
You can avoid it by importing from the camera with the Device Explorer or by importing in an older version and use its programfile in Vegas Movie Studio 14.

Cornico,

That you for the response.  But that's a crazy workaround. I opened a support ticket and will wait to see what they say.  Its been a week now and they still have not responded to a previous support ticket.  If I can't import my MTS files I will ask for a refund because the program is useless to me.

Today I got a response to my support ticket. They state that there is a known bug importing any video recorded in 5.1 sound, whether you use the 5.1 in the project or not.  They say they will fix it at some point, but they don't know when.  My reply was simple.  Since I cant use your program as intended, please refund my money and notify me when there is a fix.  If I have not moved on to another program by then, I will consider purchasing it again.  I am waiting their response.

Why don't you wait for the next bugfix release and see if is fixed?

They will never give you a date for anything -- doesn't mean due diligence is in any way lacking...

The problem is, the way it is right now the program is completely useless to me.   It's like having a car that only goes in reverse and hoping one day the manufacturer will fix it.  I have a 30 day window for a refund and didn't want to let that expire in case it took six months for a fix.  In the mean time, I have done some research and it looks like I will be moving to a different program this weekend.  One that actually works for me now.  I don't think that's a high bar.

Thank you all for your comments!

Just adding my own disappointment. v14 won't edit Panasonic m2ts files because there are "too many channels", i.e. 5.1. Surely if v13 can edit them it can't be that big a deal to get v14 to do so.

Yes, they cleverly released a video editing package that cannot import video from any camera that uses 5.1 audio.  I believe that is all dedicated HD video cameras.  The crazy part is they know about it and have no idea when they will get around to fix it.

If anyone is interested, I am selling a car that has no way add fuel it at a special introductory price,

I have same problem with 5.1 file from HDR-TD10. I wonder who made this software which is not better the old version and pop up a notice to up grade every time I open MSP 13... ? Is it Sony Vegas ? Who else ? In my opinion, Magix just want to sell Music Maker under name of MSP 14 ./.

Recently "upgraded" from V13 to V14 and ran into this problem. I can open M2TS files but not MTS. Any more recent info on this bug?

Mid to late April we have been told for the release of an update fixing this and the other annoying bugs.

This sounds like a different issue. Are you saying that taking a multi-channel audio mts file to and renaming it to m2ts, that the file can open? I tried that and it didn't open. The issue is that due to a bug, VMS14 can't currently pull in files with multi-channel audio. Do both of your mts and m2ts files have multi-channel audio?

Oops - right you are. The m2ts file I grabbed was stereo - sorry I thought that camera was multi-channel. So I'm hitting the same bug as everybody else.

You can work around this issue by getting a cheap clip-on microphone and attaching it to your camera for recording. This of course sets the camera to record in stereo, thereby allowing the file to be imported directly into Vegas. I am using this Link: http://a.co/69AL74H from amazon. 2 for 6.00.

Mu understanding is that the latest build 122 was supposed to have fixed this bug so no workaround should be required?

Markk655 wrote on 7/18/2017, 8:16 PM

@EricLNZ - Yes, Build 122 is supposed to fix this. It did with mine (an old Panny HDC-SD1).
