Cannot open old Vegas project in Vegas 19

I am trying to open an old project that was originally organized in Vegas Pro 17. I used to be able to open it perfectly in Vegas Pro 18 as well.

There is nothing in the timeline yet but hours after hours have gone in going through the source material and creating sub-clips (this is for a long interview).

Now I've upgraded to Vegas Pro 19 and also upgraded to Windows 11. Whenever I try to open the old .veg file the program hangs for a while until it goes into the "not repsonding" state. This goes on until I have to kill the program with task manager.

I re-installed Vegas Pro 18 (as that used to work back in the days) but the same thing happens there.

I've tried older versions of the project file as well (from earlier bad experience I learned to do regularly incremental saves) but no luck either.

I've also tried to disable hardware support completely and rely solely on CPU.

This is on the same hardware as original project:

- i9-9900k intel CPU
- Nvidia 2080ti
- 32gb ram

Only thing that has changed is the upgrade from windows 10 to windows 11.

Anyone faced similar problem and managed to solve it? I hate to have to re-organize all the sub-clips.

Sounds like a Windows 11 issue? A number of apps have problems with the default graphics drivers bundled with it. Try NVIDIA and Intel's websites and get their own GPU drivers.

Try resetting Vegas if that doesn't work.

If that fails, revert to Windows 10?

You can always reinstall VP17 and open an old project that hasn't become corrupt or been saved in 18. Apparently VP16 runs on Windows 11, so I'd give it a try.

Have you tried running VP in Windows compatibility mode? https://beebom.com/how-run-older-software-windows-10-windo-11/
