In VP17 my OtterBar and OtterInfoBar icons (16x16) are tiny, on my 32" 4K monitor (3840x2160). Vegas icons are 24x24 and small enough for my eyes. 🧐 Any chance they be scaled up a bit? My Win10 Display Scale and layout setting is "150% (Recommended)". Can HOS follow that scaling?
The requirement for a Vegas script icon is a 16x16 png. Perhaps V17 is different, but to ensure compatibility with v12-v16, the size will have to remain the same. Having said that, it may be possible to resize both of those task bars. For the tools themselves, there is a font option on the top task bar which seems to work. In any case, I'll have a look--also the use of dpi scaling. At the moment all dialogs are designed to be scaled according to font size.
If you still get all red X's the problem most likely is that you are using an old driver. I used to display the following warning. "If you intend to render using Nvenc, the Nvidia driver version must be 418.81 or later."
Regarding Nvenc hevc rewrapping, it doesn't work in all cases. E.g. Nvenc hevc from Bandicam is one that Vegas does not accept. It can be easily transcoded with the added advantage of conversion to a constant frame rate, but re-wrapped media are still not considered valid by Vegas. If at all possible stay away from the use of hevc for acquisition--use avc. It's much easier and faster to decode and there are far fewer problems.
And finally, OtterBar and OtterInfoBar are dockable toolbars. The little crosses are just locations where additional icons can be added. E.g. you can add any script to those "placeholders". There is also an option to "turn off" those crosses. The two toolbars look like this in my system.
Ok, thanks so much for everything. Your help and your work.
Dockability behavior is a real pain into Vegas, but it's not your fault.
I wanted to keep old driver (388.71) because it is the latest one that supports my other GPU inside my system, an old and faith GTX570, but it seems that time is coming to say him goodbye and forget it...
Indeed, after installing driver 436.15, all is unlocked (Except QuickSync and AMD VCE, because i've an old (but still good) i7-2600k and no AMD).
And better, Bandicam HEVC files are now natively importable into VEGAS !!
I lost a GPU (sad otter) but got more workability (happy otter).
That changes the default size so that when you open a tool such as Render+, it will open using that Font. You can still step through the different font sizes for each tool, but this sets the default. Just tried in V17 and it seems to be working OK.
Similar to RAM preview (Shift-B) except saved to disk with same choice of render quality options
Choice of preview size with option for half frame rate rendering
Choice of built-in or custom x264 templates from Render+ as well as lossless options
External preview using MediaPlayerClassic with choice of shaders to simulate levels conversions
o MediaRenamer Extension
Bulk rename of media files from the Project Media Window
Renaming rules similar to those found in other external renaming apps
Options to select media from media bins or timeline events plus an Undo option
o DeshakerRedux – a dedicated deshaker app with additional features not previously available
Turbo option for Pass 1 motion analysis (roughly 2X for HD and 6X for UHD)
GUI for creating masks to include/exclude areas to be analyzed during Pass 1 motion analysis
Dedicated deshaker log files to support batch Pass 1 and/or Pass2 processing.
Option to add head/tail time for events to eliminate “bobble” often seen in first few frames
Select VirtualDub filters can now be directly added through advanced options dialog
New crop-resizing GUI
To download the new version, Launch Help and click on Check Now.
I've also added the SHA-256 hash to the download window. For anyone concerned with malware warnings from Windows, you can go to VirusTotal, load the setup file and view the results of the latest scan.
@wwaag - KWIK! - Stunning . . . Answer to a Maiden's Prayer...... A Billion years ago I innocently asked if FS could be used to create SHIFT-B options. And now HERE YOU'VE done it. Thanks WaynBo.
Pros
1] No need to futz about with increasing and THEN decreasing the amount of RAM. No Grazie Memory required.
2] I logged it as being 10 seconds quicker than SHIFT-B. Outcome achieved.
3] I've got a Folder for these Frames/Previews to be stored momentarily. I'm using my SSD. Marvellous!
4] A fri***g User Friendly Countdown Finish Bar - 2x Marvellous. Very nice Feature indeed.
Cons
1] The R+ option? Lost on me. I'd like to nail this?
2] The Media Player lost the file - eh?
3] Going to the VP TL and playing kinda got squiffy? After first playing it played at full FPS. After that, the first 1/3 played at a 1/4 FPS but then got up steam to play at FULL FPS.
Suggestion: A Game Changer! If I like what I see in KWIK, could that output be chosen/selected as a REATT? It's already been FS-ed? Now THAT would be stunning!!!
@wwaag - I can't get my head around needing to do the R+ to get a Custom Render and then use it in KWIK. Yeah, I'm not getting the correct Render as I'm gettting major Blockies:
Hi @wwaag Sorry to say, I'm having trouble with HOS (latest version) again, don't know why. I had to go back and encode a few more of those DVD videos to 720P like I was doing earlier in the year, and I can't get the encoder to start, neither with the scripts you provided me in the past, nor just using the settings in R+. I tried the QSV and the VCE encoder. Looks like it's going to start and then it just disappears. Going to reboot and try again.
1) Manually open MediaPlayer. That was a definite bug which has been fixed. Easiest thing to do is Launch Help, click on the Check Now button and then Select Yes to download again.
2) Render+ is the main rendering tool in HOS. It was designed for final renders. It allows the user to create his own custom templates which you can use in other tools including KwikPreview. Here is the main dialog that is used:
Change settings to your liking, enter a name, click on the green plus button and the template is saved which can then be selected in KwikPreview.
3) The "blockies" are caused by use of the low resolution quick rendering built-in template. It was designed to more-or-less produce DVD quality-like results. Again, creation of your own custom templates allows the use of whatever render quality you wish--including full resolution, best quality if you so choose.
4) Use of the "player" is preferred since the resulting preview file is not added to project media. You "could" add the preview back and play it using Trimmer. However, you could not easily "overwrite" that file the next time KwikPreview is executed. You would have to save to a "new" file.
Look at this page in the help file (It's a bit out of date, but the majority of settings are the same). It should at least get you started. If nothing else, just open the dialog and click on the green plus button. It will save the default template which is pretty good. All you do is change the settings, enter a new name and click on the green plus button.

@wwaag - How on Earth do I get to the X264 Render Templates Menu??? I feel terrifically dumb.
Launch Help in OtterBar or OtterInfoBar (It's the icon with the question mark.) Then click the Launch Help button. When Help opens, you'll see Render Templates. Expand by clicking on the + icon and you will see X264 Render Templates.
First, you CANNOT use Vegas render templates. With few exceptions, they do not offer the flexibility required for the preview size options. As you may recall, we had a discussion regarding creating Vegas templates from scripting.
You must get to the x264 Render Templates (also called Encoder Settings) dialog that is described in the help file. You can actually do it using RenderEvents, although Render+ is preferred since it has more options (although not necessary for KwikPreview). You can use whichever you choose.
In RenderEvents, you first choose X264 and then click on the blue gear icon.
In RenderPlus, you must first select Advanced and then click on the blue gear icon.
