Compression artifacts around text overlay when rendering with sony avc

Hi, anybody else having this problem? When I render 1920X1080i@29.97fps AVCHD footage with text overlay, using the Sony AVC codec (avchd or blu ray template) , I get what looks like compression artifacts around the text. I tried with Vegas text and Titler pro. I've tried with resampling on and off, reduce interlace flicker, setting the text properties to upper field first, and with the highest bitrate this codec will do, which is 21,999,616 bps. When I render in Mainconcept AVC (either regular or Magic's version), using the blu ray template, there are no artifacts present. Now why not render in one of those insteand you ask? Well, I've found that I get other apparently insurmountable problems with those. I can elaborate on those problems later but for the time being, I'll leave it at the text issue.

Thank you for any insight on the matter.

Tried it with cpu-only rendering?

Hi Musicvid,

Yeah, tried cpu-only rendering.

Try Magix/Mainconcept AVC?

As I've said, Magic/Mainconcept AVC give me other problems.

Will you post a frame grab along with your MefiaInfo properties?

Long time ago, when I compared the quality of internal Text & Titler I noticed the same thing.

By the nature of lossed compression, sharp edges are bad for such compression. Try to add outlines for the text that makes edges a bit smoother.

Here what I have after MagixAVC with little text outline:

Texts looks fine (unfortunately, face is pixelated after MagicAVC)

P.S. BTW, Mainconcept/Magix AVC even in CPU mode might have huge image quality degradation with some footage. Added text only makes the situation worse (see the first screenshot in the linked topic). However, I have not noticed such issues with Sony AVC and x264 encoders.
