Diagonal white artifact with LUTS and color grading in Vegas Pro 19

Joseph-Bacon wrote on 11/19/2021, 6:47 AM

When using the color grading tool after adding 3rd Party LUTs. A diagonal white artifact (upper left corner to lower right)appears. It becomes more visible as I adjust sliders. I run Windows 10 with Intel Graphics (I7 with laptop built in Intel UHD Graphics video adapter). Prior to recent update it would only appear when I used LUTS on the output. Now in build 424 it appears on the input LUTSas well. The included Autolooks LUTS cause the artifact in the output position of the color grading tools, but when used in the Autolooks FX plugin on a clip, there is no artifact. Thanks in advance.

Can you share a screenshot?

What is your CPU / iGPU specifically (i7 could be 10 years old) and what driver version are you using?

You are in 8-bit full mode?

Intel I7-10510U @ 1.8 ghz There is no additional info other than "Intel UHD Graphics" in System Info or Device manager. Driver was updated today to ver 27.20.100.8478 with no relief to problem. I am in 8 bit full mode. The video is .mov 59.963 (VFR) fps progressive, 1920x1080x32, AVC and was filmed on Iphone

Here is a screen shot. I have an input LUT on and a setting of -0.178 on the LIft colorwheel

Joseph-Bacon wrote on 11/19/2021, 10:29 AM

It appears to be a problem with Intel Graphics acceleration in the program. Turning it of removes the problem. Going to see if an older driver might help. I hope I can get it to work. The acceleration halves the rendering time for me.

RogerS wrote on 11/19/2021, 6:18 PM

What render template are you using. A QSV one?

Joseph-Bacon wrote on 11/20/2021, 8:47 AM

I'm rendering to Magix AVC/AAC mp4. The line/artifact is visible in the live preview, so it's happening before rendering. It's definitely seems to be an Intel video acceleration issue with Vegas, because it goes away when I disable Hardware Acceleration.

RogerS wrote on 11/20/2021, 9:42 AM

I am using a HD 630 and just set it to do video acceleration in preferences/video (normally I have my GTX 1050 do that). I loaded iPhone 12 max HDR and a FilmicPro clip, added input LUTs that are included with Vegas but couldn't get the line to show up.

I am on driver version 27.20.100.9664

Perhaps it only affects newer GPUs like yours or maybe your media is different.

@Joseph-Bacon

Search the forum for "variable frame rate" and avail yourself of means to change it to constant for better results with any NLE.

Frame rate                               : 59.940 (59940/1000) FPS

Thanks, John. I will do some research on that. I do need to research the different settings, formats, etc. to start with the best source footage I can. Cheers

Able to duplicate your issue in build 424; I actually thought it was gone.

Bug report filed with the developers and a link to this thread.

I converted video to CFR with handbrake, but the problem was not solved. I'll submit a bug report, as well.

This is unfortunately a known problem with the latest Intel GPU drivers which affects certain workflows in VEGAS when Intel GPU is used as the acceleration device. We have alerted them about it, and hope they will provide a fix in their drivers soon.

Do you know the newest driver version that doesn't have these problems? I stayed on 27.20.100.9664 and seemed to have avoided it (but am also using a HD630, not UHD630).

Yes, if you could provide the last driver version that avoids this problem, I would appreciate it. Thanks

VEGASHeman wrote on 11/23/2021, 8:25 AM

@RogerS  It seems related to specific GPU architectures based on the initial investigations done by Intel. Till now they thought this was limited to HD 530. Based on @Joseph-Bacon's description, he sees it on a i7-10510U, so this has to be a newer GPU than that (the gpu_video_x64.log in C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\VEGAS Pro\19.0 might help identify it, or an app like GPU-Z). We will share this information on to Intel, as the occurrence of this bug on a newer GPU will raise the priority for the fix at their end.

VEGASHeman wrote on 11/23/2021, 8:27 AM

@Joseph-Bacon: Can you provide your GPU information from the VEGAS GPU log, or by installing an application like GPU-Z?

Heading out but will be back soon. Not sure how to access Vegas Video log. If you need more info, please let me know. I will get it when I return. Thanks for your help.

VEGASHeman wrote on 11/23/2021, 8:43 AM

Thanks - that information is all I need. I will forward this to Intel and see if they can provide a driver which can work around this problem.

Joseph-Bacon wrote on 11/23/2021, 11:20 AM

Hold off on contacting Intel. I found a newer driver that seems to have solved the problem. HP's update software didn't have the latest driver. It appears to have solved the problem, but I have to do some renderings to be certain. Thx
