Divx Support for Vegas 15 Pro Edit?

I know somebody has mentioned this in the past but it never lead me to a real answer. I will say that I have had some issues with codecs in the last few days cause I was messing around with the old Indeo codec for some old games. It led me to install 3rd Party codecs and of course later uninstalling them. I had to reinstall K-Lite Basic cause my Indeo codecs that came with Windows messed up. So after all this I was thinking this has caused a problem for Vegas. Anyways yeah long story short I can't drag a old Divx 5.0 file to Vegas it just won't work. I installed the Divx Codec and after tried ffdshow and that didn't even work. I reinstalled Vegas and it still didn't work. So is this codec actually supported or not?

Ffdshow and k-lite install codecs that cause problems in Vegas since the beginning if time. DivX should only be installed from its home site.

Replacing system codecs cripples Vegas.

Uninstalling and unregistering codec packs can be as difficult as getting rid of bedbugs. Sometimes requires an OS reinstall, at least in my case. Sorry, wish you had checked here first. Read carefully the items 11 and 12.

For games requiring old MCI and quartz codecs, try to locate and install Windows 98 on an old box for old games only. the last version to support them natively. You'll be happy you did.

True but is Divx supported? The video I'm trying to encode works fine with other players just not Vegas. To solve the problem I just used Handbrake and encoded into MP4. After that dragging the file worked.

Yes! Its a vfw codec, of which there are still a few in Vegas, including AVI. Don't install a pack, download from the DivX/Xvid official site only.

But you got a big case of baddies to get rid of first.

Why do you need DivX?

It was just to fix an old video

So if I make a new image for Windows 10 1809 and reinstall without doing a clean install will that help?

No idea, but do let us know how it works out.

Did you try converting you DivX file in Handbrake?

Or the others?

All other AVI files work its just those old files which are DIVX 5.0 and AC3 for Audio. They play fine with video players all of them just won't load in Vegas.

And without knowing, you took a shotgun instead of a rifle. Sorry I can't help you.

Well I did some looking around and while you couldn't help me 😔 I decided to search Google again for more information. AVI maybe supported but it depends on the format its encoded in. So far what I have found is VC1 and DIVX are not supported by Vegas and to get them working you'd need to either install a codec or convert the file. Glad I looked for that I am having no other issues. All other codecs are uninstalled and everything is working like normal again 👍

I am thrilled you got it cleaned up without resorting to a nuclear option.

Vegas does not support VCI, an older format used commercial BluRay production.

Vegas does read and write DivX, a third party codec in vfw (AVI) wrapper (I didn't know there was another?). It is something you download and install at your own risk, without any user support.

Both are supported in Handbrake, which is kind of a Swiss knife solution, and should save you a lot of twiddling. Best of luck, and welcome to the forum.
