DPX sequence import issue

gdm wrote on 7/15/2020, 3:59 AM

Goodmorning,
we have several workstation with Vegas Pro 14 build 270 that suddenly can't load
correctly DPX sequence, Vegas can't recognize the first frame/image and it says
that the dpx is an unknown.
Those systems worked well before may, is it possible that a Win update could have corrupted them?
The workstations are DELL T7910 with a nvdia GTX 980 card (all
is updated)
Looking forward to hearing from you, best regards.

Probably the way the stills are named. VP14 is kind of picky about this.

Would you mind uploading an DPX file to googledrive?

thank you both for the answers.
The name convention wasn't changed, first digits of the name are ean 13 barcode standard and last digits for the dpx sequence.
here an example:

thank you, all the best.

Hm, first it wouldn't load as a drag'n'drop. So I tried importing it using "Ctro+O" but it doesn't show in folder. None of my other DPX files do. Strange. But when I switched from "All Project and Media FIles" to "All Files" in dropdown then it showed up...but wouldn't load (File type: Unknown). Second time I tried it loaded without a problem. What's going on? 😂

Oh?

What did or did not change about your naming convention, I am simply not able to address. Having dashes in your file name is what is causing them not to load as an image sequence.

However, of two things I am certain:

  1. Vegas Pro 14 Build 270, which I also own and use, has not changed, having reached its end of life years ago.
  2. You did not try renaming your sequence, as I had hoped was implicit in my first reply.

As a test, I copied your single image twelve times, and batch renamed to [001.dpx .... 012.dpx]. The results of opening this renamed sequence was exactly as expected, as you can see. Says something for testing our assumptions prior to posting

;?)

That said, welcome to the forum as a first-time poster, and best of luck going forward! Here's a whole boatload of resources to get you started.

thank you again for your answers, but if I simply rename that still with something without dashes before opening vegas, that still will continue not to be able to be imported.

something strange is that, it is possibile in the sequence, even the second dpx is identified as unknown and so on other frames until you can find a dpx that is well recognized by vegas. And the first one magically could be recognized.

Yes, as I said, VP14 is picky about this. An uninterrupted sequence can be easily achieved using Irfanview's Batch Rename utility, and that is what I've used since starting to export/import sequences for external processing.

KISS applies here, I would forget about preserving a multi-tiered naming convention during processing, which yours is -- chances are Vegas won't understand it, your delivery requirements notwithstanding.
