ECHO During Playback

Breezy7 wrote on 10/16/2019, 11:46 PM

Hello, all.

So this is a fairly recent problem. When I preview media in VP15, there is a very noticeable echo/reverb in the audio, whether the original file is video+audio or just an audio track. Anyone know what can cause this and know a fix? When I play the media in other players, there is no echo. I have windows. It did not do this before. Thank you for your help.

It's in your audio mixer. You've got a Mic input open. Mute it..

Thank you for the reply. You have quite an amazing resume.

I opened up the mixing console. The only mute button I see is to mute tracks or audio for the project. Maybe you were referring to my system mic? I disabled the microphone using windows device manager. Restarted Vegas Pro and I still have the same issue, unfortunately.

It's more like a reverb, like the audio is being played in a large room with wooden floors. When I hit pause during media playback, the sound continues but decreases in volume for a split second.

Thanks for the kind words.

Sorry I was too brief. I meant your onboard audio mixer controls, not Vegas. Something (maybe even a headset ) is picking up the audio output and feeding it back to an open input. The echo is caused by latency. The Mic and Line inputs should be muted.

Make sure the 'Stereo mix' is not being feed back into an input somewhere. Many of the Realtek cards have the 'Stereo mix' (aka, record what you hear) option. It is good if one wants to record an audio stream, but can cause problems otherwise in some situations.

I hardly ever record audio with a computer, but I do recall with Sound Forge if 'monitor' was enabled in the record window using the 'Sound Mapper' or 'Wave Driver' devices whilst in record or record ready, there was a distinct echo (about 150ms) Could be the same with Vegas.

Yes, I had a Realtek like that. Record controls can be pretty hard to find too, iirc.

Much gratitude, gentlemen. I believe I found the issue. So I have an MSI gaming laptop. I do not use it for gaming but it has great specs for resource intensive applications such as photo/video editing.. great back for my buck. Well it comes with "Nahimic", which is an audio enhancement app that can tailor the sound to different presets such as; game, music, live, concert hall (which is what the audio was sounding like). It always ran in the bg but I never had this issue before with Vegas. I disabled it and problem seems solved (for now ☺️).

Hopefully, this helps others who might have the same issue come up.

Irrelevant but do any of you guys have VP17? If so, what do you think of it? 15 seems sufficient for me for now so I'm not too inclined on upgrading quite yet.
