Error after render - "An error occurred while starting playback"

ColdHardDrewth wrote on 1/22/2019, 6:13 AM

Every single freakin time I render a video I then have to exit the program and reopen it or it won't let me play the timeline. If i try it says ""An error occurred while starting playback" !"

THis has led to TONS of lost time because i do a lot of smaller videos so I have to keep closing and reopening with each file i edit. It's been going on for 3 builds and I cant think of anything that has changed in the system...

using windows 10 and most recent vegas build.

Did it not helped you to change the audio device in Options/Preferences into another one that's available?

For some users here it was the solution.

Nope. If I change it it lets me play again until the next render, then it repeats and i have to change it to a different one again. Very frustrated.

here are properties from a random file. Making me even more angry, I fully re-installed clean the entire program and now have to change all my settings again... but it still didn't' fix it. There's nothing that has changed on my system. My graphics card is NVIDIA GTX 1080 ti.

I had the same problem some times ago and I tried all possibilities and at the end I found this.
Maybe it helps you to trigger it

Had same problem for years with version 14. Recently upgraded to version 16, hoping it might solve it. It didn't. But the advice to change the audio driver seems to have done the trick - I'm rid of the error. Hurray! Fantastic!

Thanks to those who knew :-). Btw shouldn't the software developers have just come out and explained this long time ago? The amount of time I've spent closing and reopening projects on this account is substantial.

I've seen this error message, probably since I connected a second monitor. Rendering a simple audio track leads to this error message. Switching to the Realtek ASIO driver fixes the problem for me. It does not occur if only one video track is rendered.

Extremely disappointed this problem is back again. It's been present for about 6 months since I upgraded to latest version of VEGAS. I finally bothered to look up a fix and end up discover my own thread from the last time I experienced it.

This is a different computer from the last time I commented here, a brand new Dell. It's just wild that VEGAS has these multiple years bugs that ruin productivity and they don't go away.

That said, Mike's fix didn't work for me. Matthias' did!

Just a thought...

  1. Go to Window's Settings
  2. Choose Sound
  3. Click on Sound Control Panel
  4. Make sure that the devices you are using under Properties -> Advanced have the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" unchecked (see image)

I've done that now. Will see how things go. The issue does seem to have been fixed prior to that by switching to Realtek as opposed to the sound thing vegas had me on for default!

Thanks all!

This problem returned. AGAIN. And once again the fix was to switch the audio driver from the default Vegas one to Realtek ASIO. Can someone please explain what is occurring and why there isn't a permanent fix?

I've had this on multiple computers, multiple installs. It seems strange Magix has never fixed it.

Was the audio driver preference reset when build 636 did a reset of the preferences?

ColdHardDrewth wrote on 7/17/2022, 2:00 PM

Oh you know what, that could be it. I've also done a clean install in the past year. It could have been both of those times!
