FILE LAG

ravnedits wrote on 2/27/2019, 10:19 PM

I have imported about 20 or so 60fps clips into my project media and haven't even started editing, and Vegas freezes for 10-15 seconds on EVERY startup, and each time i click off of the program and then back on. This shouldn't be happening and I cannot find an explanation.

Specs:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz

16GB RAM

64-bit OPS

GEFORCE GTX 1050ti

Optiplex 7010

Any help is appreciated

Are you talking about the time it takes to decode the files to memory on Vegas startup? Yes, it should be happening.

Are you also talking about a delay bringing up a minimized Vegas from the tray? There's a Preference for that.

Hi @ravnedits - Welcome to the Forum!

You should do some research and try and determine if your i5 CPU is up to the task of dealing with 60fps. As an experiment try some 30fps instead? Also, try turning off or removing any Programs you don't need from startup. Something is choking Vegas from running. What is your Windows Task Manager saying? Dependant on the FPS complexity of the Vegas Project loading, mine easily climbs to 4gb or higher and once editing climbs further. Having an i7 processor has got to be helping me.

Maybe somebody hereabouts will share their i5 and i7 comparative experiences.

Opening files takes some time for Vegas. That depends on your CPU and the speed of storage it is stored.

When you switch to an other application, Vegas closes the files. This makes it possible for you -say- edit a graphics file with your graphics editor while it is already on the timeline in Vegas. When you switch back to Vegas, it has to reopen the files again. This is the default behavior. You can switch this off:

So if you frequently hide Vegas during your editing session, and you don't want to edit files used in your project, you can safely switch that off. Be aware, that you will not be able to edit a file Vegas keeps open.

Literally just whenever i start Vegas up on my PC and open my project, it'll freeze for about 10 seconds, say Not responding, then about 20 seconds later unfreeze. But this also happens whenever i click out of vegas onto a different application and then click back into vegas. It is just very aggravating

I've been using vegas for 3+ years now, just now joining the forum lol.

My PC has been completely fine with vegas for YEARS. even deals with 100-300fps clips fine. It just now started. I have mass cleared off my C: and D: drive(s), where all my files are, and still lag occurs

To be completely honest I am not entirely sure if my issue lies within the files itself. I think it is moreover general Vegas lag issues or something? The files themselves are fine and I completely understand your point here, but I was just using switching out of vegas as an example of freezing in Vegas every time

Did you try to uncheck that option?

A large project with a lot of media can take many minutes to load when you start Vegas. The media files must be "decoded" and read into memory for editing. Start here for more information.
