Hi, I see a lot of people making similar tutorials to get rid of Preview Lag in Vegas. Do you have any benchmarks to prove that which settings work? Thanks!
Then depending on what it is you can re-encode it to a format VEGAS likes, create proxy files for it if it's just too difficult to decode, or switch decoders if the legacy AVC or HEVC one work better with this file type.
I'd stay out of internal preferences and not go crazy with dynamic ram preview which has diminishing returns.
Is there a list of benchmark results of these settings for users to refer?
No, because it isn't meaningful. You have to start by understanding the *specific* problem with the project and system and then making fixes appropriately.
Creating proxy files will guarantee full speed playback but takes time to build and isn't necessary much of the time. There's nothing to benchmark- any computer in the last 15 years should be able to play 720p XDCAM at full speed.
don't you have any questions about this swastikas?
It doesn't seem related to VEGAS, so not really. If the user is Asian (Fu-Ji = Fuji?) it's a common Buddhist symbol with positive connotations. It's unlikely referring to the Nazi symbol as that points the opposite direction.

@RogerS Hi, I think if there are some public projects as benchmarks of preferences & internal settings , that can help users understand which settings can fix preview lag. That is quite meaningful. Unfortunately I have not found these so far. I just found many similar video tutorials and am curious whether they actually worked.
@3POINT Hi, that's not a Nazi, I used it to draw attention to Vegas Preview Lag tutorials.
I don't think it's easy to do a worthwhile benchmark as there are too many variables and not universal as hardware and media must be specified or the settings are not meaningful. I'd say most of the tutorials are worthless so I'd ignore them.
For what benchmarks can do, see my signature for two. Here's an example of testing of ram usage in VEGAS:
Again, start with testing a specific system and specific media with specific settings to make any conclusions.
@3POINT@Yelandkeil Hi, sorry, I try to use it to make the post stand out, like this:
Well, obviously I screwed up.

@RogerS Depressed to hear this, I've been looking for some useful tutorials on optimizing preview lag.
Then remove it please. An interesting thread always depends on its content and idea, nothing else. We are not Influencers in the YT whose purpose are mostly making money instead of teaching you anything - else you have plenty time to consume. @RogerS's comment is too tender.
For your question: invest so much as you can and study VEGAS to adjust it fit for your HW.
I've removed the symbols. Irrespective of what they represented they were irritating and annoying and possibly put off some forum members from reading the post.
I made this 4k p60 benchmark to compare preview / player relative frame rates. It's free; let me know if it helps you. I suggest curtailing all background operations and disconnecting internet during testing.
To use, focus on the bullseye at 1 o'clock. @rock-c
@EricLNZ Thank you. The emoji are indeed, VERY ANNOYING, and should be disabled in Titles COMPLETELY! Despite the opinions of some, THIS IS NOT SOCIAL MEDIA, and certain users have become invasive, presumptuous, and demanding of those here who simply do not deserve the assault! @VEGASDerek
I have quite a few different computers and quite a few different footages (including personal and company), so I am looking for some general optimization settings, regardless of hardware and footages.

There are no general optimization settings- keep VEGAS on the defaults unless you have a reason to change them.
