Frame Skipping in Vegas 15

nick-w wrote on 1/5/2020, 10:07 AM

I was called upon my school to make a big end of the year, "Senior Video." At the beginning it has all of our baby pictures, showing each person individually, in alphabetical order. So 1 picture for each kid. The problem I'm having is when I go to the pan and crop, I reduce the size of the picture, turn off maintain aspect ratio and disable resample, the dimensions fit inside the picture, so I'm not exceeding the dimensions of it. But when I pan it from the top left to the bottom right of it, it skips the frames multiple times, I have my preview on quarter so it's not just a lagging in the software issue. I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad 310 which I know isn't optimal for video editing but I've made 2-3 hour long video's without this issue ever coming up.

Why did you disable resample?

Check for rogue keyframes at the bottom of the pan/crop window. The padlock turns them on and off.

Why did you disable resample? That what I usually do for all my video's and there's been no issues with it.

I am trying that now and I don't believe it's working. I'm rendering out one section now to figure out if it just a lag issue but I'm fairly certain it's not.

Edit: not a lag issue, frames being heavily skipped.

"...turn off maintain aspect ratio..."

Not going to help your frame skipping issue, but no one wants to see their baby picture distorted. Leave Maintain Aspect Ratio switched on. Everyone knows the pictures were shot at a different aspect ratio.

Tell us something about your system and video hardware and driver versions.

Turned the maintain aspect ratio back on but I need the picture to take up the entire screen, frames are still skipping on there, I have a Lenovo Ideapad 310, running Windows 10, with Sony Vegas Pro 15. I just don't get why this is happening because it never has before. I'm going to try and see maybe if it's something with the project I'm in, maybe starting a new on the baby picture portion.

Edit: Frames still skipping on that picture and one other that I've worked on out of 4. What's weird is how that some pictures have skipping frames while other pictures don't. As if there is something wrong with the .png / .jpg I've been using for these

Never had this issue.... but you can try resave those problematic images using your image editing apps and try check again. Hope helps.

Pull down the bottom of your pan /Crop window to expose the keyframes.

I suspect, lacking your screenshot, that you have not yet found them.

"...I need the picture to take up the entire screen..."

You don't have to distort the face to make most 4:3 pictures fill a 16:9 screen.

Ending Keyframe

Off topic: I believe this is VP feature. When it detects squeezed faces it automatically starts add jumps or others artifacts (sometimes makes the whole frame green) to shift attention from these deformed faces to something different. As a last resort it is crashing :)
