Hardware

I need an expert opinion. I have an opportunity to get a PC with the following specs.

  • Intel Core i7 8700 at 4.6Ghz Turbo
  • Gigabyte Gaming motherboard - Intel Performance Chipset z370
  • MSI NVidia Double Fan Edition GTX 1060
  • 16GB DDR4 3000 DRAM

I'm currently getting more details, but Please tell me how a system like this would handle VP17 editing 4k.

Thanks for any help.

If you said 1060ti you'd be on the verge, the PC is decent, with a really good card, like the aforementioned or higher, you'd be doing pretty well. It really depends on your budget. Probably now for about $1200 you can build a boffo AMD based rig that would probably blow that out of the water.

He's asking $695 for this. I'd hoped I could go for this and upgrade the GPU, and RAM. It also has:

  • 360GB SSD
  • - 1TB Western Digital Blue 7200 RPM drive
  • - After market CPU Cooler
  • - High-Efficiency Power supply (80+ Bronze) from eVGA
  • Windows 10

He's not specific about some of this, obviously, but I am inquiring for more detail. The SSD and 1TB HDD are tempting

Does it make sense?

I'd say the price is high for a used computer. Check comps on Craigslist for $400-450.

Or new open-box at Best buy for about what he's asking.

The price isn't bad for what is included... but do look to see what else you can find in the same range. The GPU especially is on the weak side.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

Thank you for the perspective, Musicvid. I've been calculatiing what I'd have to spend above his price for a GPS, 16GB RAM and who knows what else. It's getting up there.

fr0sty: Yep. the GPU would definitely needs upgrade. The seller now says its DRAM is AData Gammix series D10. Doesn't get great reviews on Amazoon. anyone ever heard of it?
