Hiding or covering over small objects

Hello All,

I am fairly new to Sony vegas and video editing in general. I wanted to find out how to hide objects in a video shot. I have this umbrella in one of the shots but that little cap is too distracting lol. Is there anyway I can cover it up with the surrounding black? Its stationary in the video and the video is still camera, i.e no panning or moving camera.

Search for "mask," "masking," "cookie cutter."

It's all there.

I use Vegas Pro more than any other program, but I'm 100% certain, for fixed objects, I would use the Clone Stamp tool in Photoshop to create a transparent .PNG file to mask the offending graphic.

This is how I'd do it in Vegas, but because I seldom do it, it took me quite a but longer to do. Others might have a different experience.

Over many years, I've had a lot of success with NewBlueFX's 'Cut Away' plug-in for this sort of thing. It's usually quick and easy to use to get rid of small unwanted annoyances in a shot, just so long as what is selected in the shot to replace the unwanted item will blend in unobtrusively - which is where the plug-in's feathering usually comes in handy. Cut Away is part of NBFX's Elements 3 Energise pack these days (I've just checked NBFX's website), so the pack does require a purchase.

I would create a small black rectangle and position it over the bump to mask it out using track motion.
