How to Automatically Align or Center Object

klever187 wrote on 10/12/2022, 9:50 PM

Hello,

I continuously grab screen shots of tweets/IG, center them manually between my lower third and top of the screen. If not for my Lower third Vegas would automatically have this dead in the center, however, I'd like to know, how could I make Vegas recognize that the center of my screen is between the top of my lower third (2) and the top of my screen (3) so that my tweet/ig post (1) Automatically goes in between when i drag it onto my timeline? please check the image for reference

@klever187 Hi, what do your screen shots of tweets look like before adding into Vegas & what size are they?

---

There may a be script or you could use a saved position preset but if you mess with Vegas's screen centre it will affect everything else you put on the timeline,

You could create a project, make one track & call it Tweets, use Track Motion to position the items on that track, ie. your tweets, then save that project & use it as a template for future use,

Each time you're going to start a new project, copy that saved project template (rename the copy so you don't alter the orig) open the renamed copy, or in Vegas open the saved project template & immediately 'Save As' a different name so you doesn't overwrite the orig ,

Then when you drag your tweets in, put them on the Tweets track & they'll be positioned wherever you told Track Motion to put them.

You could figure the Y position for the graphic using simple math, and save it as a Track Motion Preset. No simpler way I can imagine.

I would love for VEGAS to get some auto-align tools. It could probably be done with scripting.

You can also enable the grid to help with alignment.

Thanks for the tip it helped me connect the dots and find the solution as it wasn't completely the solution as my screen cut off my objects if i used the Push transition. So, ultimately, I moved the y position above my L3rd and then I increased the width and height in my track motion to prevent it from cutting my objects and it worked. Thanks guys!

@klever187  Hi, glad you're sorted but you shouldn't have had to increase the width & height, that should already be the same as your project, all you had to do as @Musicvid said was alter the Y position, maybe you changed the Y position by dragging the box on the Track Motion screen & accidently resized/scaled it.

I can't upload pics at the moment for some reason

interesting, could you give me an example? The thing is that tweets come in different sizes so I need it to center it between my lower third and top of the screen

Anybody remember DVDA? In its DVD Menu construction Tools there is a snap-align option, I’ll repeat that, there is a snap-align option. Meaning, DVDA Buttons and Shapes, and so on, a most effective Tool options. Why can’t we have that within VP?

On Pan&crop you can snap to grid when SHIFT+Left mouse

Sure, however, DVDA allowed shapes to be snapped to each other, aligned to each other, it is an amazing tool

@klever187 If your tweets are different sizes you'll have to adjust those in Pan/Crop or in a photo editor,

Youtube video,

PS, just a thought, which way do your Push transitions go, left - right or up - down?
