How you manage your fonts ?

Fonts? I have WAY too many that I've never used!

Source

I remember many years ago, on older Win version (forgot Win 7 or older than that), if I installed too many fonts, the Windows OS performance will just slow down a lot!

On the other side, now I have a chance to 'collecting' many fonts from a creative website that is free to use. But sometimes, do having many fonts useful ? I guess this will go back to your creativity or clients' request?

As to 'manage' fonts in your Win10 now... how do you do it?

Do you:

  • install as needed?
  • install everything?
  • install as needed - and as project finished - remove the font again
  • .... ?

Back in the day, I used to install everything, especially if it was free. With fonts, I still have way to many, but it doesn't seem to hurt the performance of my computer. I guess the only way to know is to uninstall them!

But with other programs, you can see what the fonts look like before you choose them... in Vegas you have to select them in the font menu.

With different projects, I've used different fonts. Sometimes using that particular font just once. But it was the perfect one for me in that project. They don't take up that much space on today's hard drives.

Install as needed. Too many fonts don't slow my computer down, but too many choices really slow me down!

A few years ago, I scrolled through a whole lot of free font websites and downloaded/installed heaps. Did I ever use them? No. Did I re-install them on a W re-install or a new computer? No. But there is one exception. Pupcat from 1001fonts.com is a whole lot of fun.

I have a lot of fonts, some that I will never use and some that use over and over. It takes too much time to weed them out though so I leave them on my computer.

I have far too many fonts but I don't see any impact on my aging i5 PC. At times, I'm tempted to weed out the 'I'll never use these' fonts but there's always a chance that I may need one of them.
I use the free 'NexusFont' to view and manage them.

My system
Dell XPS 8700 (I know, it's a little outdated, but it handles VP20 quite well)
Windows 10 Home (x64)
3.1 GHz Intel Core i5-4440
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti display adapter
System drive Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB

Camcorder
SONY Handycam HDR-XR550VE

Thanks everyone for all of your inputs!

So many of us have similar feeling 😄.

but too many choices really slow me down!

Agree!

This is the best app I've ever found.

Install as needed. Dafonts and 1001fonts were my go to for fonts.

Musicvid wrote on 7/25/2021, 10:35 AM

I had a Corel cd with a gazillion fonts, nicely organized and ran on Windows 95a.

Nowadays, just about any external media would work.
