I cant import avi files into vegas pro like before.

Crusage wrote on 5/11/2018, 4:12 AM

If i drag and drop i get this error sign on my mouse (which indicates i cant drop the files in this program). If i go to import > media, and select file. I get a message saying it was a problem with the codec. It tells me the file type is unknown too. I tried with sv13 and 15 but nothing works. I know i can convert them but the files are so big, i just want to drag and drop like i did before. I used action by mirillis to record the game i was playing, and they use their own codec, which i know can be a problem. But i remember i did manage to fix it. But i just dont remember how. What i do remember is that i didnt convert every video i made. Ive tried installing quicktime and k-lite codec pack and ffdshow and lav filters. Nothing is working. The file has 2 seperate audio tracks to it, and if i rename the aviplug in the sv13 and 15 directory folder i am able to import the file, but now its only 1 audio track, no video and no second audio track.

Uninstall ALL those dangerous codec packs, reinstall Vegas, and post your file properties before doing anything else.

To do all this because one of the many thousands of AVI file types doesn't open for you, is self-punishment, and never works.

You're not alone

So a good advice is maybe to use more accepted screensoftware as the free and fine in Vegas working OBS Studio

I already have recorded footage which i have managed to put in vegas pro 13 before. I wont use action mirillis anymore bcs im streaming with obs now. But i just want to edit a video with some footage from some months ago. I have a sony vegas pro 13 save file on my computer which i saved right after putting all the gameplay in vegas pro. And it worked perfectly. But when i open it now, it just doesnt work. There was something i did to fix it but i cant remember what. I have no idea what to do. If i try to convert it it makes the weird distorted box in the middle, which i dont want. I managed to drag and drop the video files into vegas pro before and save it, so why not now? I just dont get it.

I am unaware of a ficv codec for vfw.

Maybe Handbrake?

There’s always the nuclear option, play the files and screen record it in OBS with a codec that works in Vegas Pro.

wwaag wrote on 5/12/2018, 12:24 AM

The ficv codec is from Mirillli's Action, a commercial screen recording app. Make sure you have Action installed and it should work OK. It's been awhile, but I've used Action in the past and there was no problem importing avi files using the ficv codec into Vegas.

This fixed ALL avi problems for me. This is a replacement .dll file for the one you have in your Vegas folder. go to Program Files > Vegas >Vegas Pro 15.0 > FileIO Plug-ins > aviplug folder and in there you'll find the aviplug.dll and you can just rename that, like, xaviplug.dll (and thus it is muted) and load THIS file (linked below) into the aviplug folder to replace the muted. You can always name the old file back to original if doesn 't work, but I can pretty much guarantee this will be the fix you want. Heres where you get the aviplug.dll file hit the first download button, type in the number they ask for to download, you'll see it when you hit the download button. and that is it, no more problems. http://originaldll.com/file/aviplug.dll/38545.html

The files are pretty big and it would take a long time, i would love to just drag and drop the videos. And the videos get this black distorted box in the middle.

The videos are very long so i would like to avoid that, but if i have to, i have to.

I have installed it in Steam. I dont know if that is a problem. But before i force updated my windows (since it didnt want to update, i had to use force, and thus i lost everything on my C: drive, but that was okay since the stuff i needed was on my D: drive, but my computer had forgotten which programs were on my computer and which werent. So i had to set it up again, and after that update i started getting into this problem.) I cracked the mirillis action program for a little while, and then bought it on steam, but it was still working. I have tried to uninstall mirillis action and install it through the website (30 day free trial.) but it still wont work.

I tried to install it from the website and it didnt seem to work. I then cleared all mirillis action from my computer, and found some files i hadnt deleted before. When i wiped action from my computer, i rebooted and installed a free trial from the website, and rebooted again, and it works! Thank you!

"...i had to use force, and thus i lost everything on my C: drive..."

Now's a good time for me to drop the hint that everyone who owns a computer should have an image of the system when it was working. No server tech in the known universe would install a server, customize all the software and put it into service without having a system image to use if the hardware had to be replaced. At least, they wouldn't do that twice with the same employer.

Backup Software Overview

Whenever i turned off and on my computer again windows would update, but it would say something like "failed to update windows, undoing updates" and restart 3 times. I was tired of this so i reinstalled windows on my c drive, which i knew mean that i would loose everything on my c drive, but that didnt matter because all my files and documents were on the d and the f drive. So i didnt care that much. What i didnt know is that windows would forget what programs i had installed on ym computer. So i would have to manually open them from d: > program files. I thought this had something to do with the problem, and it kinda did, cause it got fixed when i reinstalled Action! from the website. So there was nothing important on the c drive if what you are linking are backup programs. My computer is working fine.

There was something important on your C: drive. Your time (which will become more precious as your time goes by) and the time of the generous people who just showed concern for your problem.

@john_dennis Thanks very much for the link to the AMEIO Backupper.
The program is in my own language and so far I tried suites very much for his tasks.
😃👍👍👍

I hope you are satisfied with the program. I'm impartial to imaging software. When Windows 10 was available for free update, I looked at a number of different software packages since my old solution no longer worked with Windows 10.

I only do standalone image backups. I never do incremental system saves. I found AOMEI Backupper to have the best Windows Pre-installation Environment of the ones I tested. I boot from a 2 GB USB flash drive that I got free (after paying $1500 plus travel to attend a data center convention in San Francisco).

I dont quite understand what you are saying. But my problem wasnt that i had to wipe the c drive, it was that action was not properly installed with steam and thus the codec didnt follow with. But since wwaag told me to make sure it was installed, and then i tried installing it from the website and it worked. The problem maybe even occurred because of the fact that i updated my computer and not because i had to wipe my c drive. But done is done and now my problem is solved, thanks to wwaag
