I'm using the audio as is but MS seems to increase the volume

Hi folks,

I have this track that peaks at -0.1dB: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cTtxP1OMrNtEqq3VBeq1maDdcZBdovas/view?usp=sharing

I add it to MS Premium 17, remove all track FX, don't change any other settings and render a new wav:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1414qUJXNhlRoeALeUMYxUMqq2qfsNXvk/view?usp=sharing

The track gain is 1.0, volume is 0.0,  master fader is 0.0, no FX on master.

The problem is that the new wav is louder - it peaks at 0.2dB. Do you know why?

Mike.

Solved. The reason was that the original audio was 44K, and MS resampled it into 48K according to project settings.

@Mykhailo-Rybak That's interesting. You've found the cause but what exactly did you do to stop it being louder? I'm interested because I sometimes run into this with the audio from my camera mts files.

I changed the project audio settings in MS from 48K to 44K, and I made sure same setting is used when rendering

Next, read up on "intersample peaks."

Just did. Cool, thank you. I never thought about what 44k and 48k stand for, now it all makes sense . For anyone who's interested, here's the article I looked up that explains it short and clear: https://www.productionmusiclive.com/blogs/news/mastering-tip-what-are-inter-sample-peaks-why-they-matter.
