Importing DVD audio-is this a bug or by design

I am repackaging several old family move DVDs that I created in 2001. These were made from several even older video sources (VHS, 8mm, etc). I have found that if I use the method of IMPORT MEDIA and connect to the IFO file, no audio is imported. If I import using the DVD IMPORT, audio is there, but of course the video is broken into several mpg files. The audio is true Dolby AC3 created by earlier versions of Vegas. Is this a bug that the import media does not load the audio whereas the import DVD does, or this part of the licensing issue?
It does work as expected in my Version 12 so it is not a showstopper.

Yeah, Dolby AC3 lost support about the time the company changed hands.

@Musicvid I understand, but they support it on DVD Import. so I was curious if they just missed this, or if Decoding AC3 is an issue as well?

They are using universal decoders to my understanding. None of my AC3 Pro 5.1 DVDs I produced in 2000-2010 work right in VP14-20, but I keep 8.0c and DVDA5 to work with them.

Why couldn't the universal decoders work in normal media import? I don't expect you to know, just throwing it out there.

I don't know, but I've had the same question.
