Kind of feature request/question concerning Rendering projects

Former user wrote on 6/27/2018, 12:12 PM

Sometimes I might do multiple renders on a project for different purposes, (maybe a Bluray format, a web MP4 format and a DVD). And sometimes I have to go back to redo but I don't always make note of the exact settings I used. I very seldom use the templates as is. Is there someway, either sidecar file or metadata that will provide this information? I am not talking about Mediainfo because thay may get you the general points of the render but not specifics. Do any of you have a way you keep track of each render other than saving a specific template for each project? Maybe this is something a script could be written to do or Vegasaur could track?

For me never a problem working in the same Vegas instance.
When I reopen the export option for a second render I always can see the exact settings ( highlighted on the screenshot) of that former render.

Jan-v, yes you are right if that was the last project you worked on. But sometimes I have done several renders in between so previous settings are not right. Thanks for your response.

I like the "sidecar" file idea. Would be useful when testing.

I don’t think Vegas keeps that information for that many renders, so probably the best thing would be to do it the old-fashioned way and get into the habit of writing it down for each render you make.

Red Prince, is that what you do? Sometimes there are a lot of variables, I guess I should make a feature request or contact Vegasaur and see if it is something that can be stored via either a sidecar or notepad type file (or maybe created as a template that can be imported) Just thinking out loud here.

When I do comparison I'm creating 'base' template that I'm using and then add changed parameters into output file name.

What is wrong with custom templares (otherwise known as starting points) again?

Is there a reason you need different render settings for each project, besides whimsy?

Former user wrote on 6/27/2018, 8:58 PM

You probably know from past posts that I like to maximize bitrates for DVDs. So I adjust each according to what will fit.Currently I am working on 2-1 hour videos and 1-1 1/2 hour. After rendering I have had to make adjustments and then re-render, but darned if I can always remembering my bitrate settings (min, max, median). and for each project, I will render an HD Bluray, MP4 and SD DVD. I could make a template for each project for sure, but I was thinking it would be nice if a project would remember the renders used as stated above. It is not a showstopper by any means, just a question and maybe a request. If you use After Effects you will know that each project retains all export settings so it is easy to go back to an earlier setting for reference. And I was curious how others handle it, if at all. Do you make templates for each render that you vary from the standard templates?

@Former user The Vegasaur Transcoder does all that and more.

Joelson, but will it remember it if I go back to the project? And if I remember correctly, it can only access templates so I would have to make a template anyway, which kind of defeats the purpose of my goal.

Yes. In Vegasaur Transcoder, there is an option called "Exports Jobs to an External File". This function creates a file that saves all the rendering settings you have made in the project.

In the work below for example I configured the Vegasaur Transcoder to render a dvd and a bluray by batch processing.

I saved the chosen render settings using the "Exports Jobs to an External File" option and rendered the project only the next day. I did not need to set anything else because this feature saves the settings you made.

You only need to import the saved file into the transcoder of Vegasaur using the "Imports Jobs From a External Files" option and start rendering through the Vegasaur Transcoder.

The Vegasur transcoder also allows the creation of Varied render presets. For example I have five projects and I want them all to be rendered in mpeg2, mp4 and xdcam formats.

The trasncoder allows me to save a preset containing these templates and every time I need to use in a project just choose the preset saved.
