I'm on an older build. One of the first ones. That may be why? And yes, I did check there.

Lagarith codec missing after switching to Vegas pro 15

Good thing! Leave it off and try UT (faster) or Magic YUV.

Lagarith has cross-application bugs that make it impractical as an intermediate.

Sephirothskr wrote on 7/21/2018, 9:45 AM

im pretty sure I have ut installed as well as part of the amv pack, but just in case, can you link it? I more than likely have to update Vegas. But I don't even know how to do that lol

Lagarith is very slow to be using it.. Back in the days everybody are using because there is not much of a choices. But today, Cineform and Magic YUV wins hand down.

+1. Magic YUV is true lossless and fast, but only 8 bit. Cineform is widely supported, has 10 bit hook into Vegas, but is not true lossless (close though) or particularly fast by today's standards.

The free version of Magic YUV is 8 bit. I got the paid version that is offer 10 bit, 12 and 14 bit.

Yes, I have the paid version too, but there is no way to access 10 bit from Vegas as the codec uses the VFW interface.

Thanks for the head up. You are right, Vegas can't access the 10 bit as I just try this when I read your post.

There is no cross compatibility betetween Magic YUV (or Cineform) and external encoders like x264, x265, ffmpeg, libav, the ostensible use for a digital intermediate in the first place.

UT, Sony YUV for10 bit, XAVC-I.

Simplify your life.

Kinvermark wrote on 7/21/2018, 4:03 PM

Minor correction: Handbrake (thus x264, libav, etc.) DOES read Magic YUV files. This is an important part of my workflow.

Da Vinci Resolve reads/writes cineform, but not magic YUV (or any VFW), so life is not perfect. :)

Well, that's good, if very recent news. I hate to install a new handbrake bc of custom FDK compile, but will try to test.

Sephirothskr wrote on 7/21/2018, 4:42 PM

I updatwd to a newer build. No cigar. Yuv doesn't show up, ut doesn't show up, NOTHING does. However, I doqnlodown some random plugin my friend said may fix it called H.24 Or something like that and it appeared. But none of the others are there. I thought of buying magic yuv, but I'm scared it won't pop up either :( I'm incredibly frustrated.

Musicvid wrote on 7/21/2018, 5:11 PM

Dude, none of these codecs came with Vegas. You have to INSTALL them.

Then they sow up as CUSTOM VIDEO RENDERER in the RENDER DIALOG appropriate to your CONTAINER FORMAT (AVI).

Sephirothskr wrote on 7/21/2018, 6:40 PM

I'm aware. I reinstalled the codecs and they are not there.

Sorry for the typoes

Will you show us the same custom screen j-v showed you?

Sephirothskr wrote on 7/21/2018, 7:03 PM

I'm at work and get off at 11. But yes, I'll show you when I get home. It's got the default codecs such as cineform, uncompressed etc. I'll show yall later tonight

FYI, there is a free version of MagicYUV (lower left - on his website), so you can install that first as a test.

eastern standard. I just got home so let me get a pic. I'll edit this post shortly

Installed magic, it pops up. But not UT or anything else. https://imgur.com/a/gG1Fpv2

Kinvermark wrote on 7/22/2018, 11:41 AM

Likely means "UT or anything else" are installed in wrong spot. Try re-install of missing codecs? Some of this stuff is getting quite old, so maybe installer doesn't know where to put it.

Sephirothskr wrote on 7/26/2018, 2:59 PM

They are still missing, and magic yuv CAN'T be decoded by my software I prefer to use.
