Media Defects: Effects on Players and Vegas Pro

Bad things happen to good cameras and good software sometimes. Here is a typical display of a defective media clip from my Sony RX10-IV:

In three years I've had two of these.

Here is a demo video of the ways the defect manifested itself on various systems, players and Vegas Pro versions:

The defective clip can be downloaded from here if you're curious how your system might interpret it.

Not to worry, I finished the projects without much drama. "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show" around here.

Maybe time for a new SD card, or maybe just a reformat?

Anyway, here it is after QSF in VideoRedo.

It is fixed but 8 frames shorter, and gives this message:

@Musicvid

Thanks.

I use four SD cards and rotate them. At the start of a shoot, I format the card in the camera, shoot, then transfer the files to my computer and put the card in reserve until it makes it back through the rotation. They are numbered. About a year ago, I had a write failure that hung the camera in the middle of a sporting event. I didn't pass go or collect $200, I policy-replaced all four cards with four of these. Prior to my using the SanDisk cards, I used four Samsung EVOPlus cards. With the microSD cards, I found inconsistent carrier results when I ran speed tests and Samsung announced that the carriers were for convenience and not warranted even though some carriers intermittently fell below the 30 MB/s V30 minimum for UHD XAVC. I was not happy about having that conversation with the Samsung rep. On the plus side, the Samsung rep answered the phone.

None of that means that one or two cards, or the camera, didn't fail, at least temporarily. I'm also not sure that a low-level format cleans up potentially temporary errors in a cell of the card.

I use VideoReDo to clean up video, at times.

SanDisk is my go-to for anything important. But even some of the ones listed on Amazon are fakes.

Also note the sun is between cycles right now.
