Movie Studio Platinum shuts down when opening a vf file

Joseph-Grasso wrote on 4/5/2021, 7:19 PM

I saved a vf file from an edit of photos and video frames I made in Movie Studio Platinum 17 but now, each time that I try to open it, a message appears that Movie Studio has stopped working and the program shuts down. I downloaded Vegas Pro 18 recently and get the same message with this particular file. It took me nearly a week to put together this edit and losing it means a timely remake of the edit. I've sent the crash notice to Vegas but have not received any assistance. How can I regain this file?

You should have a *vf.bak file in same location.

Rename to remove the .bak and try it.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it but it didn't work; I continue to get the "Movie Studio has stopped working" error and the program shuts down. At this point, I feel quite frustrated by this program and considering looking for a more reliable video editing program.

It's not a judgment issue here; something happened. Is it just this one project, or are other saved projects crashing as well. One common cause of such events is corrupt media.

Three other projects that I've put together open without any issue and fortunately I've rendered them so that I have useable mpg or mp4 files. But I have continuously had problems with Movie Studio over the past few years from inability to read raw video files from a camcorder, to corrupting an entire assembly of videos while being edited to make a movie, to degradation of video quality with rendering, to a recent computer crash as a result of a Movie Edit Pro update which corrupted a Microsoft Visual C + + file.. I'd like to use the programs but am deeply concerned about these recurring issues.

Those are all "separate" issues that must be addressed individually; try to appreciate the position you are putting your forum volunteers in.

Sorry you have a corrupt .vf file. You may need to start from scratch, since it is a unique occurrence. As I said before, I suspect a corrupt source media. If you will post the full MediaInfo and Vegas Properties for each source media, we may be able to give some pointers.

Threads containing multiple issues and overgeneralized comments are the least likely to be read and addressed here. Please start individual, detailed reports for each new issue, thanks. The official Magix support link is at the top of this page.

Best of luck.

That's a good point and I will indeed post the properties of the movie I made on Movie Studio Platinum to see if there is an explanation for the corruption of the vf file. The movie contained a slideshow of photos: here is their MediaInfo properties:
