Use another program like the free Audacity to convert to a PCM WAV file. MP3 files vary a lot and sometimes do not meed standards.

Thank you david-tu.

That gonna make me waste more time.

Support again please.

Okay, I offered a fix, as you suggested. You can waste time making it work, or you can waste time waiting for Magix to fix it.

Jack - can you post one of your problem mp3 files somewhere so we can download and try. There appears something unusual about them. In my MS14 my mp3 files show their property as "MPEG Layer-3" but yours shows simply as "MPEG".

merlin-beedell wrote on 10/24/2018, 1:51 AM

Did you get anywhere with this? I have exactly the same issue.

MP3 screeches and has a mostly maxed-out waveform in MSP15 rev 146, Same file plays in Sound Forge 12, and in the windows players. Seems to affect all or nearly all mp3 files.

I am not sure what sort of data I can provide that would be helpful to Magix to determine the underlying cause.

EricLNZ wrote on 10/24/2018, 2:43 AM

I've not experienced problems with mp3 files. As suggested previously with the original poster it would be helpful if you could post a file somewhere for others to try.

merlin-beedell wrote on 10/24/2018, 9:27 AM

But ANY mp3 file is poor in MSP15 (rel 146). Therefore I need to be able to provide some sort of debug or environmental dump so the Magix can try to replicate the issue. I just dont know what to provide or how to obtain it.

I have tried a few suggestions without success. I guess I could re-install MSP 15 - but I would like to avoid this if possible. I am pretty sure it was OK before the 146 release was applied, as I have created a number of projects over the last year without issues. I have been using Vegas since V10 - and this is the first issue of this type. V15 seems mostly robust in all other respects.

My computer is Win10 pro joined to an Azure AD domain. Photostory Delux / Soundforge / Cyberlink PowerDirector all play the .mp3 files just fine. So I can only assume that some .dll loaded with MSP15 is incorrect - but which one?

Musicvid wrote on 10/24/2018, 10:23 AM

Magix software decodes compliant unencrypted MP3 files just fine.

Would you like it to also decode magnitudes of errored source as well?

Reality check.

EricLNZ wrote on 10/24/2018, 5:33 PM

Merlin - Presumably something on your system is interfering with VMS. Have you installed any codec packs?

Anyway check which dll your VMSP15 is trying to use.

Hmm - I think I see the problem - mcplug2.dll is not correct. But how to solve it?

I think by selecting a mp3 and not a mpeg 1 file for the fileproperties.
This is from a mpeg 1 the program says.
Does it have the right extension?

MediaInfo is a specific utility. We cannot hope to help without that detailed information. If you did not rip that file yourself, there may be nothing that can be done.

Maybe something in this thread may help, it's a bit above my head.

The issue, as far as I can tell, is that MSP15 has decided to associate mcplug2.dll rather than mp3plug2.dll, as other users indicate. But perhaps that dll is correct and it is something else - there are several other .dll files in the mcplug2 directory, unlike the mp3plug2.dll. Both .dll's have the date/time of 16/07/2018 and properties showing correct version 15.0.0.146. Having said that, this is the MediaInfo data for an .mp3 file that I have previously used in MSP15 - indeed have created a DVD for distribution based on this and other .mp3 files (taken straight from a sony sound recorder, not ripped). But now ALL .mp3's just scream at me but ONLY in MSP, not any other player on my computer. I hope that Musicvid might find something here so his reply can be actually helpful.

Update: I copied the mp3plug2.dll to the mcplug2 directory and renamed so it replaced the mcplug2.dll. Now MSP15 plays my .mp3 files. So my issue seems to have a work-around solution - but one that I do not understand how or why it went wrong in the first place (other than applying the MSP 146 update).
