MP4 import error

Alan-Toussaint wrote on 10/7/2021, 4:37 PM

Typically I never have any issues importing MP4 videos but recently picked up some BlackMagic cameras. I save them on a CPU through the ATEM switcher as an MP4 file, then when I want to import the videos to Vegas Pro 14 I get this error: None of the files on Vegas Pro could be opened'. I'm not sure if it's a codec thing. I did some searching and all I can find is checking the compatibility in the property settings. Has anyone else seen this issues? I'm stumped. Cheers!

MP4 is just a container. It's what's in them that matters. Please post media info on one of your problem files. Instructions here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

@Alan-Toussaint

Do you have Quicktime load on the machine?

Alan-Toussaint wrote on 10/8/2021, 1:13 PM

Yes. It's actually the first time I ever run into MP4 import error since I started using Vegas since 2008. Thank you John Dennis.

Musicvid wrote on 10/8/2021, 1:49 PM

This is a long shot, but try renaming the extension to .MOV, on the chance that it may summon a Quicktime decoder. You can always change it back if it doesn't work.

Thx Musicvid...Great tip I didn't even think about that. I tried it though and it didn't work. Thx for the tip 👍

This is AVC so it should really work in Vegas Pro without issue unless the header here and the actual file don't match...

One question- are you on VP 14 Build 161? (Or is that just when the plugin was last updated?) I believe build 270 was the final one. Login to your account and download it if you aren't using it already.

If that still doesn't work try transcoding to a known-good version of AVC. Try a tool like Handbrake or Shutter Encoder and don't use hardware encoding for the transcode.

If you'd like us to see if it works with more recent versions of Vegas, feel free to upload a few seconds long sample of anything.
