Mp4 videos are rendered as blurry and pixellated

Cameron1391 wrote on 2/25/2017, 2:47 AM

Hi I have a very annoying issue with Sony Vegas on Windows XP.

I have the correct Klite Codec pack installed but Mp4 files still do this

Mp4 files on my computer play fine. But when rendered into Sony Vegas it either says "None of the files dropped could be opened" or the playback screen shows very pixellated and blurry image. I have lots of long Mp4 files I can't convert because the files are too big i'd like to edit on Vegas. is there any possible way I can fix this issue? Quicktime 7 is not supported on Windows XP which is a serious issue for me if I want to edit mp4 files on Vegas. Mp4 files are also imported from my Camera as well. I have looked everywhere online about this issue and still haven't found an acceptable solution to this problem

please help. thanks

Neither Klite Codec pack nor Quicktime are required to open and edit mp4 files in Vegas.

How were the long mp4 files generated?

What version of Sony Vegas do you have?

I have Sony Vegas 7.0 platinum.

Oddly, Mp4 files have worked on this version without problems before. The Mp4 files were filmed in HD, either from my Cameras, converted through Handbrake or downloaded clips on the Internet through Downloadhelper.

Platinum is a version of Vegas Movie Studio, not Vegas Pro (as far as I know), so I've moved the thread.

That's a pretty old version, and AVC/MP4 support has improved significantly since then. You might consider an upgrade. Movie Studio 14 has just been released.

Some of this thread might help you. It applies to Movie Studio as well as Vegas Pro: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-why-won-t-vegas-open-my-file-correctly-codecs-converters-etc--104572/

If you convert files, don't choose too exotic settings. For example keep the Encoder Profile at "Auto", "Main" or "Baseline" in Handbrake. Go with default settings as much as you can.

If these are mov files your only prayer is to install QuickTime 7.6 or previous. Still, it's a 10 y/o Vegas version ...

has anyone experienced good playback regarding upgrading to sony vegas 13 platinum with mp4 files?

Mp4 is an extension, a box containing different kinds of video.
Playback possibilities depends on what codec and which bitrate is used in that box.

So specify codec and bitrate in your mp4.

The latest version is 14 but neither 13 nor 14 will run on Windows XP. You'd need Windows 7 or later. Sorry, I missed that when I suggested an upgrade earlier (and I also gave you a link that apparently doesn't yet offer an upgrade to 14).

If these files used to work on your system then you could look into what has changed. Uninstalling Klite would be a good start as it can cause problems. The free Revo Uninstaller might make a better job of uninstalling it than the standard Windows uninstaller. A registry clean with Tweaknow Regcleaner (I used to use it on XP) or Ccleaner (I use it these days on Win 10) might be an idea but backup first and backup the registry when it prompts you.

A reinstall of Vegas might be worth a try. If you do that then clean the registry after uninstalling it, before you reinstall it.

Ultimately though, I think you'll be frustrated trying to open a variety of AVC/MP4 files in version 7.
