MS15 Initializing GPU-accelerated processing crash after Diver Update

Howdy! I have been using Movie Studio 15 for a while, but I recently updated my graphics card (intel i5 8th gen) from version 26.20.100.7325 to 27.20.100.8336. It was a perfectly clean update using the DDU, and I have had no issues with the driver itself. However, when I tried to boot up Movie Studio 15, it attempted to load for a little, and then stopped working when the progress bar got to "Initializing GPU-accelerated video processing..." I have restarted my computer, and I have completely uninstalled Movie Studio 15 and reinstalled it, and still the error shows up. I'm certain the issue is with the graphics driver, but I do not want to revert back to my old driver, which was having significant problems in other programs. Does anyone have any advice regarding what I could do to resolve this issue?

Update: Just installed a copy of Vegas Pro 15 Edit I got from Humble Bundle a while ago and it encounters the exact same issue when trying to start the program. Will be searching for answers related to Vegas Pro as well, as that likely has a bit more community support.

I have had not luck using GPU acceleration with any driver version on Intel 620 graphics, although I'm sure others have.

Try leaving it off unless you have accelerated plugins.

I cannot find the option to turn it off for my computer as a whole, and I cannot even open Movie Studio 15 in order to disable it within the application. Is there a way to disable it without opening the Movie Studio itself?

Yes, in Windows Device Manager, disable the Intel graphics driver and restart; it should load the Windows default driver, allowing you to open Vegas and turn off "GPU Acceleration of Video Processing" in Preferences. Keep us posted.

I completely forgot that you can still run programs with the Intel graphics driver disabled. When the Intel driver was disabled, I was capable of opening both Vegas Pro 15 and Movie Studio 15. In Movie Studio, I could not find the option to turn on or off GPU Acceleration of Video Processing in Preferences. In Pro 15, I was able to find the setting, but it was already turned off with no option for turning it on, leading me to believe it had always been turned off. Re-enabling the Intel Graphics driver and attempting to close and re-open either program resulted in the same crash-upon-startup I had been experiencing.

It is notable to mention that the programs do REMAIN open when re-enabling the Intel driver, and I can use them for editing in this state. However, even when the Intel driver is re-enabled, the GPU acceleration setting in Vegas Pro 15 is still set to Off, with no other options available.

Can you run an older version of the driver instead? Your story kind of makes me reluctant to upgrade.

Yeah I have a copy of it saved, but I honestly don’t want to revert. The other advantages of the most updated driver are too great for me not to use most of the time. It’s not too much of a hassle for me to disable the driver, boot up Movie Studio, and then re-enable the driver once the program’s open. It seems to be working fine once it’s running, I just can’t get it started with the latest driver. If someone has a good permanent solution, I’d be happy to listen, but this is the jerry-rig fix for now I suppose haha

They have beta driver 27.20.100.8425 available. Perhaps it's worth trying that (although it only mentions fixes for Adobe Premiere Pro 2020 and Adobe After Effects)?
