Are the graphics - drivers up to date? If you are using one of the latest versions of Vegas Pro, you should use the "Help - Check for driver updates" function built into Vegas for the update.
It's because of your playback quality set to Preview (auto). When using some Video Fx and the preview quality below Preview (Half), Vegas is buggy and artifacts appear, which is why you have to restart the program. This is a very old bug that does not fix at least 5 versions. Try to set Preview quality to Good - Half or Good - Quarter.

its an mp4, no effects or anything, just fresh of drag and drop
...and to add to what a container can have it it, an analogy could be to a trash can. It's a trash can that can have anything in it. It could be paper products, plastic products or organic products. Each is different, but it's still the same trash can and can only be accepted in recycling depending on what is in it.
