Not Video: Vegas Pro 20 will not open after working correctly.

TomV wrote on 11/17/2022, 11:57 AM

After using for a few weeks suddenly Vegas does not open.
- double clicking on task bar
- double clicking on desktop
- double clicking or open on a saved Vegas project
- open of the Vegas200 application in the Program Files folder
No clock, no nothing, just lays there.  What is happening?

Try holding down CTRL-SHIFT when starting VEGAS. Keep holding it down until a window pops up. Check the "Clear cache" box and then continue. That will reset it back to factory defaults and clear all cached information.

No joy. Got a "Do you want this application to make changes to your computer?" Box and clicked YES, but did not find any options to clear cache.

I used Excalibur on the old machine for 10 years to edit dance footage - 4 camera shoots and marked the edits and let Excalibur do the rough cut to master. Love it! Also found 3 or 4 other tools that were very useful also.

Were you running a trial version, a registered version, or a Vegas 20 version you got somewhere else?

TomV wrote on 11/17/2022, 2:56 PM

I was running an upgrade version I bought for $119 about a month ago. It was an upgrade from an 11 year old version of Vegas and installed on a new machine.

I have a similar (maybe the same) problem. Try opening Task Manager and see if there is one or more Background Processes named "Vegas Pro" running. "End Task" on both of them (sometimes ending just one works). Then try starting Vegas again.

That won't fix it permanently but it's a workaround for me. I'd love to know what the permanent solution is.

Good Luck!

PS: Sometime only a reboot will work.

Back running. I don't know if it was the restart or the CTRL-SHIFT trick but it worked. On the restart there were no tasks running. Thanks to all for the help!

I occasionally have the same issue, it does not happen often, your friend is the task manager and kill Vegas processes. A true restart (not mere shutdown) will do the trick as well.

I get the 'not opening' issue a few times a week with Vegas Pro 20 and oddly almost always happens after the computer has been rebooted for whatever reason. It seems to be more prevalent with a number of programs in Windows 11 (not just VP) than it was back with Windows 10. The taskbar approach is the best way to cure the immediate problem, though I really wish that it wouldn't happen at all.

I get this daily now, pretty much anytime I need to open Vegas. The only solution I've found is ending task of the furthest down. If that doesn't work then I need to get more than 2 vegas operations going, then end one in order to get it to open. It's been this way for 18, 19, and 20. Vegas 20 is by far the worst.

I signed with my purchased account of vegas 17, Vegas 18, to say: I hate this program with all my might, it makes me waste time, they don't finish patching an edition and they are already selling a new one and they charge you. Little ethics to develop. Thank you everyone for reading. =)

I am getting this error now. 30 minutes ago, Vegas was working. Now, nothing. Tried everything above. Clean install....
When I double click to launch, it initially launces the window to initialize all the plug-ins, then it disappears and nothing.

Jesse-Steketee wrote on 5/3/2023, 11:35 PM

I reset the cache and restarted my PC twice and it still manages to load the application but the second the boot up menu finishes, it closes itself and there is nothing in my task manager suggesting the program is open in the background still. I'm going to keep messing around with it but let me know if anyone has any other ideas

Change the date back a week and try again.
