To clarify what I meant by "a case like yours", I haven't heard of another unsolvable case of an avi file that can be opened in VP12 or VP13 but not in VP14.

Understood. I apologize if my attempt at clarity came across as harsh.

The word "clean" is significant in my last post. And I would throw in some Ccleaner registry cleaning between the clean uninstall and the reinstall.

As far as uninstalling and cleaning the registry, that is standard procedure for me. Meaning, it’s not uninstalled until I clean the registry…and with certain software even few other steps are required for it to be truly uninstalled.

Nick, when it comes to looking for help with Vegas, you, and others, make this one of the better forums on the web. I appreciate every one of you helpful folks. ☺️

You have an old DV file that is encoded interframe and wrapped AVI, and you are not interested in sharing the file, or heeding the advice that you are doing so in an obsolete container. Interest is zero here, my friend, and best of luck.

CLEAN UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS

Disclaimer: This procedure is hazardous. Do it at your own risk. Take backups of your system drive and registry before you proceed.

After uninstalling VP14, manually delete these folders:

  • C:\Program Files\VEGAS
  • The temporary files folder you have set in Options > Preferences > General. By default that is %LocalAppdata%\VEGAS Pro

To be thorough, also delete these folders:

  • %AppData%\VEGAS Pro (You'll lose customized windows layouts, keyboard settings etc.)
  • C:\ProgramData\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro (You'll lose VEGAS video media profiles)
  • C:\ProgramData\VEGAS\VEGAS_Pro_14 (You'll lose codec additional activations)

Then in the registry, manually delete these folders:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Creative Software\VEGAS Pro\14.0
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Creative Software\VEGAS Pro - MAGIX

To be thorough, also delete this folder:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Creative Software\Vegas Pro\14.0

You could also consider deleting some of the other folders in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Creative Software or that whole folder, but be very careful if you have other Sony Creative Software software that you don't want to mess up.

Then I would reboot, then do a Ccleaner registry clean, then reinstall.

@Musicvid

You confuse me. I believe this is my first interaction with you. I didn’t reply to any of your posts or call you any names. So, there’s no need to be negative with me.

Plus:

  • You have misquoted me.  I posted to Nick that, “I cannot share my old AVI file with the public.” This is very different from your assumptions that “I’m not interested in sharing.” So, you are attacking a premise of your own creation.
  • This whole AVI--VP14 issue, was more a curiosity than the drama you are making it out to be.
  • Lastly, I never requested your interest.

From this point on, it might best to just ignore each other.

CLEAN UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS

@NickHope

Nick, once again, your thorough follow-up proves you’re the best!!!

But, my interaction with you seems to have caused some disapproval. So, I won’t be replying to any further to you in this thread.

Please don’t take it as rudeness.

Thank you so much for your concern. ☺️
