To me it looks not a "normal" mpeg2 file, because interlace settings ( TFF for SD) and used audiocodec are not normal.
I can even add mpeg2 files with TFF interlace settings with normal audio with MediaInfo

to VMS PL 17 on the timeline where it plays well.
But the kind of file you have I never saw before.
Maybe it is possible to share such a short sourcefile on a cloudservice as Dropbox so we can try it on our installations.

Is the file from a DVD recorder? Was it a broadcast recording?

Do you have DVD Architect installed? If so , does changing the file extension to .vob help?

If not, the stock solution is to run it through Handbrake.

Or, since the ,mpg file is short, could you upload it to Drive or Dropbox?

@j-v Could you please clarify as TFF is normal (at least in this part of the world and UK) for PAL mpg 720x576. Only PAL DV-AVI is always bottom field first. As for audio my experience is that Dolby AC3 is also normal, apart from Vegas which uses mpeg layer 2 in its mpg program export.

The movies files are from a Sony DCR-SR90E and are recorded in 2006. I have processed those files in Movie Studio Platinum 15 without any problems.

It seems that the new Studio is missing some codecs . Even if I try to render these files with the option Sony AVC/MVC - AVC HD 1920 * 1080 50i it directly generate the error and quit the program.

I never experience this problem and have processed these files in a previous version. There is something substantially wrong with this package.

3POINT wrote on 7/11/2020, 1:29 AM

Your footage is SD 720*576 and it would make no sense to render it to FHD 1920*1080. Could you provide us with a ( short) sample of that camera footage?

Nico_Kasius wrote on 7/11/2020, 3:55 AM

As a verification test I used the movie file ( *. MPG) in my old Movie Studio Platinum version 15.0 (Build 146) without any problem !!!!!. File extension : mp4 - Resolution 1920 * 1080.

So, I will finish my project (dead-line: next week Tuesday) in my old version of Movie Studio version 15.0 and I am wondering why this is not working on version 17, it seems like a down-grade.

KenB wrote on 7/11/2020, 4:52 AM

Does it crash when you add the video to Project Media, or only when you try to view it? If it doesn't crash when you add it to Project Media, do this: right-click on the file in Project Media, select Properties..., hold down the Shift key and click the General tab. Then share the contents of that window here. Do it for both VMSP 15 and VMSP 17.

As said before, it makes no sense to upscale your SD footage to FHD in VMS. That it is possible is another story.

Your footage is meanwhile 14 years old, the used codec even older. I think it's more important that today's editing software tries to keep updated with today's codecs and not with codecs from last decade or century.

EricLNZ wrote on 7/11/2020, 5:37 AM

Yes, but some of us open old files from "last century". Also the mpg file is not unusual so VMS17 shouldn't have problems with it. I suspect it may be a gpu setting in one of the new options in VMS17 that weren't there with earlier versions.

3POINT wrote on 7/11/2020, 7:43 AM

Maybe it's the same as with old features, like legacy text or legacy stabilizer, which became deprecated features before they disappear, I don't mind.

Musicvid wrote on 7/11/2020, 1:14 PM

@Nico_Kasius

You've been invited twice to upload your original sample to Drive or Dropbox for examination. Technical Support will certainly ask the same thing. Care to share?
