For those who participated with Magix Vegas Pro - Your City Contest wants to share their creations of their hometown, this is the topic for it! Show us your hometown!

Can you post a tutorial on how you did the speed ramping? Or do you know of a good tutorial on that? I haven't quite got the hang of it yet.

Hello there... thanks for the appreciations 😊

As for speed ramping, I mainly use Velocity Envelopes (right click on the clip>Insert Envelope > Velocity), then just play with variable accelerations / deceleration envelopes. If that not enough fast, then I combined it with clip's playback speed (or rerendered it if that's not enough fast)... The challenging part is picking the right exact time and exact moment for showing the building interest. so sometimes I need to do 'time-shift' with the clips...

As for 'Smooth zoom' transitions, they were keyframed manually using event pan/crop + motion mask (not using the popular 3rd party plug-in).

The most important thing of this project is careful timing planning. Not easy thing as I have a lot to show, but we only have 45secs max.

Just Xiaomi Action Cam 😜 because the lens of that camera's action cam is extremely super wide angle, and it was put to Zhiyun SmoothQ gimbal (put via gopro adapter - because zhiyun smoothQ was designed for cellphone usage). so, the color was Rec709 only*. Shooting mode standard video recording, and then walking only in some places (like 00:06-00:13 , 00:21-00:28 , 00:31-00:41)**

*Thankfully VP16's color space now has more complete list regarding to color space selection - so I can be more creative with the ACEScc Full-range-grading workflow!

**Total walking steps of that day 7.3km

Correction Oct 28 2018:

The selection of VP's color space, and rec709 included, is the result of ACES 0.7 and ACES 1.0

But from my observation, the color handling and adjustment in 32bit full-range of Vegas Pro 16 has changed. The result is faster workflow to reach the color theme I wanted. I tried to grade the same clip in VP15..., I notice the differences.

Currently Magix is doing another contest too for Acid - only noticed this announcement in their IG.

I guess it's up to Magix Social team to decide what theme of next competition...😄. We'll see....

The first place will be posted here too once they posted on the FB Vegas Creative Software page. (yes, I'm curious too! I only see 2 still frame only in his FB personal page - looks interesting.) Hopefully next week.

Setiawan Kartawidjaja started learning videography from his father in the family business (Chungs Video Production) and continued teaching himself. In addition to his professional work, he also contributes as a moderator in the VEGAS Community. His submission shares a first person tour of the streets of Bandung, Indonesia where he goes running in the morning. Its clever use of media generators and transitions earned the video 2nd place in our YOUR CITY CONTEST.

Thanks for posting the winner. Very cinematic. What I found challenging was trying to capture a city in 30-45 seconds when obviously that's hard to do because a city contains so much. And then when you try to put in a lot of shots that necessarily increases the tempo. So I found the whole thing quite challenging since it is so different from narrative film editing. With this as a frame of reference, I'm ready for the next contest already!
