Program Crashes 10-30 seconds after start (Unmanaged Exception)

LStevens wrote on 4/28/2020, 5:15 PM

This has been happening with all versions of Vegas pro and Vegas Movie studio that I have tried thus far. I know that there are a couple posts regarding this issue but everything that I have found is specifically for AMD or NVidia Video cards.

So far I have tried running

- VEGAS pro 14

- VEGAS Pro 15

- VEGAS Pro 17 Trial (Build 421)

- VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Platinum Trial (Build 143)

The same issue every time, I open it, functionally seems that everything is working only to randomly crash within 10 - 30 seconds and get the error message that I've posted at the bottom, with "Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)" being the problem every time. My drivers are updated, VEGAS is running the latest version, I would sooner use WMM before formatting and reinstalling everything on my computer.

The program crashes regardless of inputs I make into it or lack thereof, I can open it and not touch it and it will crash I can also start working on a project and it has no effect on the length of time that it takes to crash.

One thing that I have noticed with the Pro versions of VEGAS is that when I try to scrub through the video using the white slider thing in the timeline area is that it just stutters and rubber bands not really moving more then a centimeter in either direction. This did not happen in Movie Studio 17. In both I am able to scrub through the video using the arrow keys. I can post video of this if it would help in diagnostics

I'm running this on a Razer Blade Stealth late 2017 model (RZ09-01962E12)

2.7 GHz Intel Core i7-7500U Dual-Core

16GB LPDDR3 RAM | 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620

I also have an external monitor hooked up

Thank you for any help or suggestions that you have.

My feeling is that this might just be a lack of power problem, however I don't want to invest in better hardware just for it not to fix the problem.

I am looking at getting an eGPU with a Nvidia 1660 Super

Let me know if I can provide any other information

Probably no problems to start the programs but it crashed everytime while files are loaded and you do something.

Please give screenshots of your projectsettings, loaded interface and state here what the MediaInfo is of your used sourcefiles

I think my video above shows the project settings and loaded interface

If you are using the needed Windows 10 I should have no idea what is causing your crashes exept maybe because there is no dedicated GPU and you use also a second monitor or the very limited space on that laptop.

Same results when just running on the laptop. Thank-you for the help though 😀

Try this:

Convert your video in Handbrake to 1920x1080, 1.0 PAR.

Then try again.

LStevens wrote on 4/29/2020, 12:32 AM

Handbrake is locking me to 1440 x 1080 storage I cannot set this value any higher via the dimensions tab in handbrake, that being said I have limited experience with this program, I might be missing something.

The display output is 1920 x 1080

Regardless, as evidenced by my video above, I don't think the type of media I'm importing is causing the crash.

Thank you for the suggestion though I appreciate the help!!

Yes something has changed in Handbrake from a while back. I find now I cannot convert my old PAL SD 720x576 widescreen to square pixel 960x540. Instead it insists on 720x540 with a PAR of 1.3333.
