Rendered 60fps video ends up being 2181.50 fps !!

Darren-Pyle wrote on 8/10/2020, 9:55 AM

I have Vegas Pro 17 on a Windows machine and am rendering a 15 minute 4k 60fps wedding video and each time it renders it plays the first 15-20 seconds and then fast forwards through the rest of the video in like 10 seconds while the audio continues at normal speed. Checking the video details I see that the FPS is came out as 2181.50!! Which explains why it is fast forwarding like it is. But what in the world could be causing this? I checked the project and rendering settings Rendering UHD 2160p 59.94 fps HEVC (Intel QSV) like I have done many times successfully before with other videos in 17. I have copied the edits to a new file, same thing. Any Ideas what may be causing this?

Ok here is the Gopro footage from the drone - 59.94fps (although the audio is 46.87fps- kinda odd - but I am not using the audio) Also I have tested renedring just my main Panasonic camera footage an it ends up being a higher fps too -64fps.

Have you tried resetting Vegas?

Just to make sure everything's clear...

"It" is Vegas and the speedup happens during rendering?

Or does this speedup happen when you're viewing the finished render?

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

Thanks, I tried resetting Vegas on opening - that didn't help any unfortunately. No this doesn't happen during rendering, just when viewing after it is finished. I tried removing the clips where it seems to happen every time at about :25 seconds in but that made no difference. So the first :25 seconds or so play ok and then it stops and runs through the whole video in about 20 seconds- like you are seeing your life flash before your eyes (or in this case the wedding). Then the audio continues to play at normal speed for the rest of the video with a black screen because it already ran through the video. Here is a shot of the details of the finished video showing the 2180.50 fps. (If I render a shorter video the FPS is less but still over 59.94 - like 65.40)

You could try the s04 disable. Normally you also see the problem on the timeline but I have also had no problem with timeline but the encode went nuts, with video repeating and frames from beginning appearing at the end, but not the same as what you're saying

Hold down the SHIFT key while opening Options > Preferences

Click the Internal tab

In the field "Show only pref containing:" file type "So4" without the quotes

Set "Enable So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS" to FALSE.

OK > Restart

Darren-Pyle wrote on 8/10/2020, 7:57 PM

Ok I am uploading to youtube to see what it does with it. And I had already disabled So4 to help with the crashes and boy has it! I tried playing it off of my 4K TV and a fast USB 3.0 SD card and it just stopped at the same point and didn't fast forward like my PC (BTW my PC has a I9 9900k (8 cores 3.6ghz) with 16gb ram on WIndows 10 with an MSI R9 390 8gb card.) So I tried it on my MAC book (also an i9 32gb ram, SSD) and I got to the same point but instead of stopping or blowing through it, it struggled to keep up with the audio and would just stop on a frame for a while and then advance a little. My render Bit rate is set to what it gives you with the UDH 3840x2160 option with 80,000 max and 40,000 average. Could that be too high for these machines? I wouldn't think so.

Source file is suspect if it acts up in about the same place on two different types of machines.

If they bring the vegas encoded video back into vegas will possibly see audio and video are different lengths, and the standard video players aren't actually playing black, it's filling missing video with black. That was the situation I had

Darren-Pyle wrote on 8/10/2020, 9:10 PM

Ok lenard you are right -I brought the file back into Vegas and the video file is only 24 seconds long! Also I uploaded it to youtube and does similar to what my pc does - plays to the point and then flashes through some of the rest of the video.

Here you go

Now as for the source file, It plays fine when I bring it raw into Vegas. So what could be the issue with it? Lenard what did you do with your situation like this?

He doesn't mean Youtube. That is not your source file. Upload to Drive or Dropbox, please.

Darren-Pyle wrote on 8/11/2020, 12:36 PM

Well I feel like a noob a little bit. I believe the issue to have been rendering to a new big 5,200 rpm hdd I got to archive videos. I rendered the portion that was after where it got stuck to an SSD and it rendered fine, rendered the first couple of minutes of the video and it rendered fine. Rendered the whole video to an SSD and it rendered and plays fine and the details show 59.94fps. Thank you Musicvid, Michael Harrison, John_Dennis and Lenard p for trying to help me figure this issue out!

john_dennis wrote on 8/11/2020, 2:01 PM

@Darren-Pyle

"I feel like a noob..."

You deserve a fair amount of hazing from your peers for using removable media as a render target.

As penance, you should investigate why your drive isn't a "reliable connection".

Look for things like:

  • firmware or installed software that allows the spindle to spin down for short periods of low or no read / write activity.
  • Windows 10 Power Plan that allows all of your hard drives to spin down. The default is 20 minutes.
  • etc.
Darren-Pyle wrote on 8/11/2020, 2:11 PM

Ha! Did I say it was removable? Well it sort of is - an e-sata external 4 drive bay that I render to all the time as I usually do 5-6 multi-cam projects and the ssd's in my machine are used for the each separate camera to help with preview during editing. I don't think the connection was a problem, or at least it never has been - more the hdd 5,200 drive speed against the 4k high bit rate video. Juts my guess.

john_dennis wrote on 8/11/2020, 2:29 PM

@Darren-Pyle

"more the hdd 5,200 drive speed against the 4k high bit rate video."

A 100 M bit / second video stream is a FFIAWT to the slowest hard drive.
