Rendering 4k Footage coming out pixalated in sections of the video....

Glennster wrote on 10/5/2020, 5:28 PM

Hi , Ive been trying to clip some footage off my gopro, 4k @ 30 fps. I have a fairly powerful pc with 32gb of ram and ssds, I rendered using magix avc/aac and the video seems to be low quality and pixelated time to time throughout the video also with images fading across my clips (ive not got them overlapping as far as i can see, Plays back fine in the preview window in vegas pro 15 itself.

just seems to render in crap quality. files are in h265 as far as I know straight off my GOPRO hero 9

Post your GoPro source footage properties. That's where we need to start.

I will do that tommorow all i can say so far is they are recorded in hevc h.265 mp4 , 30fps and 3840 x 2160

Will look for those details tomorrow, thanks.

earlier gopro's had a problem with the so4 reader, you could check that, if it doesn't help reverse the 'fix'

@Glennster
Which build of Pro 15 are you using?
And what could be your reason to set in the customized rendertemplate an avarage bitrate 0f 4x default?
This should be the default and that's never too low

As far as I know the latest vegas 15 pro, I watched a youtube video and it said to set the bitrate to them(stock bitrate the 4k video kept going pixilated) . I re rendered with fps set to 29.970 and the ghosting and pixilation of frames has gone so I guess setting 30 fps manually was actually higher than the gopros 29.XXX fps

And of course, you set your project properties at 30.000 with Resampling at the default Auto setting.

That is precisely the reason for posting your actual file properties instead of just the generic "30p," which 99% of the time means 29.970 NTSC. And yes, I already knew that GoPro defaults to 29.970.

You have learned the importance of citing precise data with your questions, rather than making anecdotal statements, which we in the business know are almost always incorrect. Welcome to the forums!

@Musicvid I've never seen frame rate differences cause that kind of pixelation. Can you elaborate on where you have and what you think the causes are? One reason I ask is I work with 59.9 and 29.9 gopro footage all the time and haven't seen that problem no matter my final rendering fps, which is all over the place as I experiment with different vfx methods.

@michael-harrison

I can't, except that: a) the odd project frame rate sent up a red flag for me right away, and b) the OP has reported that changing it to correct 29.97 cured his problem. The high playback bitrate is certainly a contributor, and typical of, the artifacts seen as a result of combined system load.

@Musicvid "the OP has reported that changing it to correct 29.97 cured his problem"

Totally missed that. *sigh*

That's bizarre. I wonder what other setting/fx/? is contributing to the behavior.

@j-v not sure what you mean. The encoder doesn't care what the user "thinks." *if* (big if) he only changed the frame rate, the input and output are otherwise the same

what bit rate would you recommend for 4k footage and yes I feel like a fool bit minor things seem to make a huge difference. really appreciate the prompt replys and help. that media reading tool is very useful!

Musicvid wrote on 10/6/2020, 12:08 PM

Now that depends entirely on your system's ability to maintain its playback buffer. Half that, or 60Mbps, plays back with no attifacts on my modest rig, and YouTube considers 18 Mbps deliverable.

Glennster wrote on 10/7/2020, 4:12 AM

So 60.000.000?

So 60.000.000?

That depends on your PC - we only know that you say it is "fairly powerful" and that it is equipped with 32 GB and ssds.
It would help if you - also for any further inquiries - provided your system specifications and the software you are using in your profile.

Ultimately, however, it also depends on special settings and drivers - and you will not get over your own attempts.
