Rendering Hangs at about 11%

Julius_ wrote on 3/13/2018, 6:32 PM

I have this 2h30 project with files from 2 cameras and a wav audio file from the tascam

Cam1 is the Sony a6500 mp4 type xavc-s

Cam2 is the panasonic hc-x1 mp4 type AVC

I tried all this with hanging vary from 1% to 17%..it just hangs with Vegas 15 build 321 and an older Vegas 15 build 216

-so4compoundplug.dll off, Dynamic Preview 0 (MagicYUL lossless or lagarith lossless or uncompress avi) Hangs

-so4compoundplug.dll off, Dynamic Preview set to 10,000 hangs (MagicYUL lossless or lagarith lossless or uncompress avi) Hangs

-so4compoundplug.dll on , DYnamic Preview set to 0, (MagicYUL lossless or lagarith lossless or uncompress avi) Hangs

-so4compoundplug.dll on , DYnamic Preview set to 10000, (MagicYUL lossless or lagarith lossless) Hangs

I need an avi file so I can feed it to handbrake and get a file under 5GB.

In another project that it 50 minutes, it doesn't hang at all with this:

-so4compoundplug.dll off, Dynamic Preview 0 (MagicYUL lossless )

My hard drive is a 8TB new and tons of free NTFS space

Help!

Blow the winter dust bunnies from your CPU/GPU and try again.

Even with an NTFS drive, you cannot create a working AVI file >4GB.

There are other formats that work great in Handbrake without all that size and other limitations. See if rendering to XAVC-I makes a difference.

Julius_ wrote on 3/13/2018, 6:54 PM

But it doesn't work with mov as well.....with AVID DNxHD codec

I work with 50GB mov files every week...

I just tried Magix AVC/AAC MP4 and hung at 7%

No matter what template I use it hangs with this project.

For the AVI file, I can create files >4GB, just not with this project

"See if rendering to XAVC-I makes a difference."

I'll give that a shot..rendering template Sony XAVC with XAVC Intra 1920_1080 format XAVC to give me a MXF file....will this work in handbrake?

Thank you

I have not had issues with 4GB+ uncompressed avi files created from VP15

Start with Number 16 here.

1) Divide and Conquer. Try to render the last half of your project.

2) Segment the Market. Mute tracks one at a time and try that render one more time.

3) What is the Default Preview Ram and when did you know it?

Julius_ wrote on 3/13/2018, 7:51 PM

Default Preview Ram: I tried 0 (default) and 10000.

So far MXF file is working..it's at 32% and going very strong..stay tuned..Thanks!!!!

I'm watching the render of this 2h30 clip, eagerly....72% and going strong.

I never used sony XAVC..if I can fire out some questions and this might change my workflow.

1)What the diff between Intra/Long/S long in terms of quality and file size?

1B) In the Sony XAVC templates, where do you specify the bitrates??

2)If my footage is 4:2:0: still okay to use? (I thought it was for 4:2:2 footage)

3)Does Handbrake handle this file type well?

4) Is it better than Mp4 Magix AVC in terms of quality?

I normally upload this to vimeo (after I pass it thru Hanbrake to get the filesize down) and some clients view it on the 40"+ tv screens

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! The help received tonight was just spectacular!

Thanks!! Thanks!!!

XAVC-I means all Intraframe.

High quality, but relatively large size for a compressed format.

AVI, as a legacy 20th c. format, sometimes lacks support for a number of things which may be present in your project.

2) Yes.

3) Yes.

4) Maybe, depending on your definition of the imprecise adjective "better." Would you be referring to size, quality, or encoding speed?

A note: there is no harm in putting your 420 footage in a 422 container, but no advantage either, as some have deceived themselves into believing.

4) You should get better image quality than Magix AVC, however it is still lossy. Should not be an issue if you are going to re-compress it to lower bitrate for uploading.

The MXF template worked!! It gave me a 115gb file....I fed it to Handbrake and file was reduced to 3.5GB. Looks decent to my old eyes.

When I say quality, I mean the quality of the image.

I think I'm going to be using MXF more often....

Any ideas when I should be using Intra or Long or S long?

Also, you don't specify the bit rate.....The file that the project created is 114 mb/s (MediaInfo).

Heehaaa! Okay now I go to bed....THANK You all!

"My hard drive is a 8TB new and tons of free NTFS space"

Is that new hard drive internal, USB or in a network (NAS).

Internal hard drive.

Stick with XAVC-I if you don't mind the sizes.

S and L use interframe compression, which is "lossier" and produces smaller files.

I don't mind the sizes as I feed it into handbrake anyways.

For S and L is the video quality just as good as XAVC-I?

Any idea on where the bit rate is set? I

Thanks for your help!

"Any idea on where the bit rate is set?"

You can't set the bit rate. It's baked into the flavor of the type of XAVC you choose.

This video was very helpful in describing the differences...
