Requesting features to be added to VEGAS. Should be fairly simple.

Hello people of the forums! I have a suggestion for the developers and hopefully the people I've tagged are able to get this post in the eyes of someone who can make change.

Would it be possible to add a 'Skin Tone Indicator' or 'Skin Tone Line' for the Vectorscope? This would help tremendously for getting good starting points for accurate skin tones. Right now I'm doing my best guesses but would like to make them look better.

Next, can we get toggle switch options for colored overlay modes (Y,R,G,B) for the Waveform graph? This will help make sure the white balance is correct along with the luma levels of the color scopes.

These features already exist in other NLE's like Resolve, Final Cut, and Premiere and I believe adding these would help take color grading to the next level. Just my thoughts. Below are picture examples of what I'm talking about. @VEGASPascal @VEGASDerek @VEGASHeman @set @NickHope

I'd very welcome a native flesh tone indicator. Meanwhile I use a workaround. I use a script (triggered by a toolbar button) which adds a flesh tone color gradient to the selected track which then displays a flesh tone line in the vectorscope.

If I sit a blond baby next to a redhead baby, the fleshtone lines are 10º apart. Which is correct?

I use the histo or rgb parade for visually comparing chroma levels, when necessary. For PBS, it may be necessary.

As Musicvid indicates, not everyone's skin tone is an exact match to the supposed standard. Better to match known values, such as on color charts, although this isn't perfect either. I would really like to see a feature like Resolve's color chart calibration. Also, RGB Parade does what you're asking for in the normal waveform graph. It just squashes the horizontal axis.

Did they ever make the auto ripple button blink and glow like a fire truck when it is activated?

I would like a switchable 123 degree line for skin tone, as it can provide a good starting point for the final correction, as this video shows. I used ColorFast 2 vectorscope here, which has lines for the YIQ color space model. This is turned 33 degrees counterclockwise. The different skin tones in this reference chart are all directly to the right of the I-line, as can be seen.

As a workaround, I like the idea of a color gradient that can be activated via script. @Marco. Could you share this script?

Here is the download for a zipped folder which contains a Vegas Pro 17 project file and the script ("FleshTone") mentioned above.

To successfully run the script there must be a Color Gradient preset named "FleshTone". When you've opened the "FleshTone" Vegas Pro project, go to the Generated Media Event in the timeline, open it and save the given preset. I think this should work to share customized presets.

I use a Color Gradient of 120° with a saturation of 32 %. This sorted to be a good starting point for most of my projects. You can easily modify and re-save the given Color Gradient for your own needs.

Thanks Marco, I will test it with different presets. Since I only need the drawn line in the vectorscope, I increased the saturation and cut it to a narrow strip at the bottom. The longer line stands out better from the point cloud.

Thanks that will definitely help. But I'm really hoping any VEGAS developer will see this and understand it's a really needed feature in the program

This feature has been requested a number of times and it is on our list of features to add. It's a matter of priority and resources as to when we can get it done, but it is on our radar.

That's great news to hear! I appreciate the response and I'm sure all others do as well!
