Selecting Render Format - Use HEVC if Source Files AVC?

I just purchased Vegas Pro 19, after historically using Vegas Movie Studio. With the new software, I'm trying to decide which format to use for my video renders. I've done some web searches to get basic education on the codec. A few questions:

  1. My source video appears to have used AVC (GoPro 8, LUMIX DMC-ZS100, iPhone, etc.). I've read that HEVC (H.265) is a newer version of AVC (H.264). Is it bad to use HEVC to render if the source files are AVC?
  2. I want to use the videos on a PC and Blu-ray. Should I render the files twice for each use? For example, "field order" is none for computer and Upper First for TV.

1. HEVC gives you higher compression (smaller files) with about the same quality as AVC. Since your source is AVC, I suggest you stick with it. HEVC is more useful for 4K and above.

2. Only AVCHD will render directly to a BluRay movie. MP4/AVC will play better on your PC.
