SpyderCheckR 24 results applied to Vegas 18?

dxdy wrote on 10/11/2021, 2:31 PM

I just got a Spyder Datacolor kit, which includes their SpyderChekr24 system (24 color swatches on a card plus software). Is there a way to apply this kit's HSL (Hue/Saturation/Luminance) color corrections to media? I am using Vegas 18 Pro.

BTW, the Spyder X did a wonderful job of calibrating the 32" LG TV I use as an editing monitor. I am delighted.

The answer is yes, if the Profile can be saved as a 3d LUT; or, I can convert ICC Profiles to LUT if you like.

Spyder is a really good tool. I wish more Vegas editors would take an interest in monitor calibration; it would save us who try to help others with color management a lot of headaches.

Thank you Musicvid. I will work with it and see what I can get out of it.

Does the included software work with video? If not I'd say it just works for manual corrections.

IMHO, anyone doing color correction and/or color grading without a calibrated monitor is simply "shooting in the dark". I have 3 Dell FHD monitors, a Benq UHD and laptops and they are all different "out of the box".

Of the SpyderX options, make sure you get the SpyderX Elite which includes monitor matching software.

+1

How else could someone hope to collaborate with another on a project?

I wonder if besides SpyderX, let's just say a more affordable (correct me if I'm wrong) Colormunki, any differences for this calibration process?

The current replacement for Colormunki, the X-Rite i1Display Studio Colorimeter, runs about the same price as SpyderX, $169 US retail.

Highly recommend the i1Display Pro. At least in the US there are periodic sales.

Musicvid wrote on 10/13/2021, 11:10 AM

There are a few comments on the internet suggesting that the Display Pro is slightly more accurate. Mine is an old Spyder Pro 2, heavily hacked for digital displays: probably not very accurate, but the results are repeatable, so it is better than nothing.

Some no-budget types will go with software solutions like Adobe Gamma or Calibrize, as I did. But honestly, even with fifty years' industry experience, eyeballing gammas individually that way is incredibly tricky, and my outcomes were not that repeatable.

Very frustrating... really... had been there soooo many years ago, and failed catching the result.

Realize this is an extremely important one if color accuracy requirement is super high, while on the other time the price for equipment is 'ugh.' (felt locally up-priced)

But one equipment can be used to multiple/unlimited displays right?

Absolutely. You can make and store as many profiles as you like.
