stretching on different FPS videos

Hi all,

Battling with this for few days now...

I have 2 videos and want to make them into picture in picture video, but they are different frame rate videos so I align the start and everything is perfect but as the video advances, of course, one of the videos progresses faster and they end up out of sync. So I tried using stretch to make them into same length video (as both video display same thing and should be the same length) but stretching make playback rate to be lower than 1 and I end up with same mess as I did before.

Here are my questions:

Is there a way to stretch time but maintain playback rate at 1?

If I stretch time and then try to change playback rate to 1 again, it reintroduces some trimmed parts of video (depending on which side I am dragging time stretch). Is there a way to revert to playback rate 1 without getting trimmed parts back again?

If I am doing this wrong, do show me the right path mighty video editors :)

btw I tried converting both videos to same frame rate, but I am still getting different play times and frames out of sync.

You haven't stated what the two frame rates are.

One is 29,970 and the other one is custom made and it was 100 FPS.

I used converter so both videos are 29.970 now.... still no good. Same video, should be same length but its not. The one that was originally 100 FPS is a bit shorter.

100 fps is what Vegas reports when it encounters VFR.

It needs to be converted first.

I did convert it and I mentioned that above.

Post MediaInfo details for the unconverted and converted files, please.

It may not be native 29.97 vfr.

Back up a page if you need instructions.

Post mediainfo reports for the two original files.

Are you talking about something along the lines of a slow motion video & a normally rate one?

Do you need the audio?

analog video/audio that is captured can have a slight variable in speed.

You're on the right track but doing some math would make things easier. If you ctrl+left click drag it will not adjust start/end points, just slow/speed up the event.

For me, when in doubt of FPS I render to image sequences. media files can have FPS coded in to them but image sequences allow a lot more flexibility with playback framerates.
