Supported Files

Hi

I'm using Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum Build 204, and recently started using a Canon EOS 5D Mk IV. When shooting in 4K I can only shoot as .MOV file. This file is not supported by Movie Studio, is there any way of working around this, beraing in mind that I wish to shoot in the higest quality possible before editing.

According to these specs, that cam can also save video MP4, an easily editable format.

But only at Full HD not 4K

I've tried the preferences/deprecated features route to enable Quick Time plug in and still no joy

It would seem important to know which 4k format settings you are using:

I have Quicktime installed, how do i know if it's installed as a Windows component

Garry-Clarke wrote on 4/4/2021, 2:28 PM

Just installed QT 7.7.9 and same issue still persists

I believe suppor for Canon 422 is still a WIP, but 420 works fine here. Suggest you stick with 420 because that will most likely be your output format.

Is this another problem caused by QT getting broken in the last VMS17 build? We're still waiting for Magix Vegas to fix it. My limited experience is that only Mov files using jpeg video are affected. Others VMS can open with alternative codecs.

I can confirm that Canon 422 is not yet supported in VP18. We may see something in VP19, I would surmise.

422? 420? Are they alteranive names for 4K and full HD? All I know is videos my son has shot in 4k and output in Full HD are still far superior to those shot in Full HD. Seeing the other comment it would suggest that Magix need to fix a problem within the software not for me to shoot in a lower quality format

It's called chroma subsampling, and Canon shoots either. 4:2:0 enjoys universal support, and is still your best choice for delivery. 4:2:2 does not, and apparently is still under development in Vegas, so you will need to convert your files for the time being.
