Supported video formats | Some aren't working

FreezingWolves wrote on 2/29/2020, 12:54 AM

So I tried to start testing vegas pro 14 (271) and importing video files, well it seems mine is coming up with an error of file corrupt or isn't a supported format. Tried mp4 and it wouldn't take it. Now oddly enough I do a new video in mp4 and it takes it just fine. Is this telling me that these videos age like milk instead of wine? What's the deal?

Suggest you post MediaInfo on one, or better still if you have a small file upload it somewhere for others to download and try.

So this is the file and here is it's properties. I'm just not seeing the problem with it yet.

@FreezingWolves - You haven't followed @EricLNZ instructions - why?

Musicvid wrote on 2/29/2020, 10:30 AM

@Grazie, Not sure, but some people need a more detailed set of instructions in order to get their attention, such as in Section "C" here.

@Musicvid - Understood.

To be fair, It's not that I wasn't trying to but this is all new to me. =/ I'm a complete novice to all of this and use videos and forums to learn how to do something. Sorry for my ignorance.

FreezingWolves wrote on 2/29/2020, 11:03 AM

so here is what mediainfo gave me.

Musicvid wrote on 2/29/2020, 11:11 AM

Thank you for providing the requested information.

Your video is variable frame rate. Vegas Pro 14 does not support variable frame rate.

Therefore, you must transcode it in another app in order to use it in Vegas Pro 14.

Many people find it most convenient to use Handbrake for this purpose.

See how things work here?

Post back when you have additional questions, and welcome to the forums.

Glad you figured this out so easily. I use bandicam for a lot of video uploads. I just fixed the setting from VFR to CFR. Thank you for the information and help!

@FreezingWolves - No apology needed. We all started somewhere. Sometimes I feel like I'm starting over too! And yes, that Variable Framerate gotta be the issue. BTW, do you know what Handbrake and Transcode mean? ( @Musicvid - 😉 )

Musicvid wrote on 2/29/2020, 11:19 AM

Also, if you've got Bandicam working reliably with Vegas Pro 14, I'm sure others here would like to see your settings.

I do know of handbrake and have used it once before. I was using after effects for a few projects so I didn't need to worry about the variable frame rate much except for the audio syncing. So it was something I wouldn't have caught. But Handbrake has helped me redo video formats.

Can't say I have it working reliably yet but I will definitely show you my settings and answer any questions. These are the settings I would use with the new information on CFR and VFR. The 30 FR is because of most video working being between 29-32 range so I keep to 30 to have a solid consistency. As for the full size with 70 percent. Video still has a good quality while keeping the file size lower.

I'll let you guys know how it works as I test and play with it. I do have another program I use with bandicam if problems occur but I won't mention that till I do some more testing like this.

Alright so after testing bandicam and the other program they both failed to keep it at the right cfr and I'm still having to use handbrake. Sorry for no great returns on this guys.

@FreezingWolves

Try Open Broadcaster Software. It's very flexible as you learn more about it, but lately, out of the box, it has played well with Vegas Pro 13-17.

I'm not sure how you feel about sound from your recordings, but 96 kbps might be short-changing your viewers. 192 kbps for stereo seems to be a common starting place.

@FreezingWolves You can use these (needs ffmpeg installed) batch files to convert vfr to cfr also.

Well since this is only for a stinger/transition it sounds pretty well. Here is a clip of what I have so far.

Thanks for the advice! I'll give it a shot!

@FreezingWolves

"Well since this is only for a stinger/transition it sounds pretty well."

Yeah. Considering how many sporting events I've shot with cameras that record PCM audio and crowd noise is the only thing you hear, I'm guilty of wasting a lot of disk space over the years.

FreezingWolves wrote on 3/2/2020, 6:56 PM

Yeah see this part I'm making is for streaming as well as videos for youtube. The less I take the better. Now in moments where we do a lot of talking or need the sound perfect I amp it up, but this isn't it. haha
