Timeline 'playback' fails after rendering

Timeline 'playback' fails after rendering a short section.  Not all render types stop the playback.
m2v is OK. m2t & avi always fail.

Applies to VP14,15 & 16. over 3 machines.  Never noticed the problem until I rendered to avi as I usually render to BD templates.

Sure this has been reported before but failed to find a solution.

3 option available.  Tried all 3 with no success. Windows Classic Wave Driver, Microsoft Sound Mapper, Direct Sound Surround Mapper.

Can get round the problem by closing VP & re-opening but feel this is wrong.  Always OK with 'elementary stream for BD .m2v'.

Only found the problem after try to set up frame serving with Happy Otter.  Not a 'Otter Problem' as the problem exists after uninstalling HO.  Also made a full system image before loading HO. Restoring the image does not help.

Edit:

As an alternative to closing & reopening VP I can gain full control by re-rendering a few frames in .m2v or .avc .  Works with all 3 Audio Device preferences.  Currently set to default.   So far tested on 2 different pc's.

Suspect the problem has been with me for a number of years, just not found it.

Those. are legacy MS drivers, and they are not used so much.

You do not has ASIO or HD Audio available?

That may be a clue.

Make, model, and driver version of your sound interface?

diverG wrote on 2/19/2019, 10:36 AM

Main Desktops.  Only ASIO drivers are associated with a Blackmagic IP 4K.  Have now tried that option and all appears OK.  As I had not specified The BM card as a 'Preview Device' I would not expect its Sound to be associated with VP.

Laptop: No ASIO drivers available.  Just the 3 basic options.

Onboard Realtek sound:  Driver 6.0.1.8216 (latest available).  Have noticed that whilst Control Panel / Sound allows StereoMix input Adobe Audition no longer accepts this as a working input.  That used to work so suspect a W10 update screwed that.   Not really sure what I should be looking for.

Still 2 out of 3 machines now OK.  Thanks Musicvid your help greatly appreciated.

There must be a load of laptops running VP so my problem should be solvable.

Edit. (20/02/2019

'asio4all' installed on laptop.   Seems to have fixed the problem, time will tell.

My onboard Realtek 6.0xxx shows "HD Audio Device" which is the ASIO driver. Maybe update that driver.

Otoh, ASIO4ALL is good.:-)

diverG wrote on 2/23/2019, 2:43 PM

It seems illogical that ASIO drivers are suddenly a requirement to run VP.  Have received a number of Windows updates of late (now on  1809).  Have just loaded Vegas holding S+Crtl.  Vegas now functioning without the need to specify an ASIO device.  Tested with VP14->16.
