Transfer video on mini dv tape to pcmini d

paul-w6479 wrote on 1/20/2021, 1:37 PM

Im connecting my jvc mini dv camcorder model Gr- d60ek, to my pc , Dell Dimensio Dime521 AMD 64 3800+ processir, 2.41ghz 3gb ram running MS XP SP3.

Connection is via firewire.

I connect up and windows media maker starts up.

It sees the camcorder, starts the capture but when i stop the capture i get the following message. 'The specified video device is not responding. Verify that the device is connected properly and turned on, and then try capturing again'

The video captured count stays at zero.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

If you're using Vegas, try using the capture utility (Vidcap). Also make sure the camcorder output settings are correctly enabled.

Hope this helps.

Turn off Device Control in Vegas capture.

Have you tried virtualdub (free)? I used that before I found Vegas DV capture was way better.

Thanks FayFen.

It seems you guys are thinking its the capture software eather than a hardware or driver problem.....which is good.

I will try the recommendations and report back.

Having tried virtualdub i get the same results as windows moviemaker. I can see and control the camera but capture doesent do anything?

You might need to download the LEGACY firewire drivers for windows 10.

Hi Doug, thank you for the comment. It is a win xp machine Iam using. Will these drivers still work? Thanks

Win XP should have the legacy drivers, but you might check and see first. But they probably will because I don't think the drivers have changed.
