Unable to Load MANY avi and mp4 files into VP

I like VP but I'm really disgusted by VP's terrible problem of not being able to accept/play various forms of .avi and .mp4 files. Yes, I know there are many codecs, blah, blah, blah --- but VLC can play everything on my computer. And TMPGE can handle every .avi and mp4 file but VP cannot. If the free VLC media player can play a video file, then VP should be able to play the file.

This primary flaw in VP should be fixed. I suggest Magix finds out how little VLC manages to handle codecs. And TMPGE. They figured out how to do it, why can't Magix?

(Yes, I have v15 -- the version doesn't matter; this problem has been happening since v1.0)

I have a pair of scissors in my drawer next to me and I have very poor luck removing screws with them. Some codecs are not for editing.

That's flawed logic. "Free" players are not bound by commercially licensed codecs, as Vegas is.

And? It could not accept play avi files! :)))

TMPGE is commercial, it can play an .avi file that VP will not.

Corel VideoStudio is commercial, it can play an .avi file that VP will not.

The only thing flawed is VP. They need to correct their inadequate codec handling.

That's always struck me as ridiculous. Such instances are when you download the highest resolution versions of YT videos. They often do not have an audio track, & vegas won't load them. Why?

This is a very good point. VP should be able to play a video without an audio track.

Eric -- thank you for the offer but the problem is not with one particular file. This VP inadequacy has been existing for many years with many different .avi and .mp4 files. I know because I have had so many difficult projects because of VP's failure to play certain file types.

I asked because whilst I only use MS not Pro I've not had any problems with mp4 files from many sources - other video programme exports, phones, GoPros..... As for avi I've little experience there.

It would have been useful to see what was different about your files that caused problems. If you don't want to share a sample file perhaps you could post media properties as per Musicvid's post, the third one above.

Alexander, the MediaInfo and sample will be needed for any meaningful peer support.

If you just want an audience to share your indignation, I'm out.

A Feature Request here would involve the name a CODEC, not just the avi wrapper, which can contain anything! Please read my links in detail, thanks.
