[URGENT] Vegas has suddenly become un-usable

Adzie wrote on 7/24/2018, 5:35 PM

So i've been using vegas for many years now and have developed very good editing skills through it. Recently i landed a video editing job that required sony vegas experience and i was happy about it, but now on my first project, vegas has suddenly become extremely laggy and borderline un-usable on my computer. The preview window is completely broken and plays at 1 frame every 3 seconds and takes up to 10 seconds to show any change i make in the video frame FX and can sometimes just crash the program completely. It plays audio fine but the video aspect has completely died on me. I'm afraid i will lose my job because of this now. What can i do? i also re-installed the program and it still isn't working.

my computer specs: intel core i7, nvidia GTX 1050, 16GB RAM. 1TB disc space.

Well, something has obviously changed...

In the interests of completing your job, why not temporarily move to another computer (borrow from a friend?)

There are lots of possibilities. To diagnose, take a look at the FAQ and troubleshooting guides linked on this forum (first page.)

I don't have another computer and i spent £3K on this one so i can have a good computer to edit on. I have tried all the tips to "improve lag on preview window". My problem seems to be worse when viewing gifs too. Gifs are completely frozen in the preview window.

Your call.

To diagnose you will need to post all your info:

Don't expect this to necessarily be a ubiquitous problem that everyone has seen before. You can troubleshoot if you are methodical and logical. My usual approach is to back up (i.e. simplify)until I get something to work, then add things until it breaks. Otherwise you're just guessing.

It's your Media

Or its your Project

Or its your Effects

Or its your Gnerated Media

Or its you GPU

Or its your Render Properties

Or its your belief system

Or its a combination of two or more of the above

But just how in the Beejeezus are we supposed to know without the required and requested information????

Good luck with your new outfit and a looming professional contract deadline..

Had a clarinet player show up at the first performance of "A Funny Thing Happened on the a Way to the Forum" with a new $6,000 instrument. Never brought it to dress rehearsal. Got fired and second chair stole the show.

@Adzie

Can you open any other projects and preview normally?

Adzie wrote on 7/25/2018, 2:11 PM

turned out to be the gifs. apparently vegas cant process gifs.

Kinvermark wrote on 7/26/2018, 6:09 PM

I was curious about this (don't normally have any reason to use GIFS) so I tried a few GIFS I randomly downloaded off the web: all worked fine.

So, it seems the problem is limited; would be nice to know why yours don't work.
