Hi everyone,

I have two examples of .ts stream DVB-C files:

Example 1 (SD): https://files.fm/f/5fzxud4d

Example 2 (HD): https://files.fm/f/nj8tvkrx

First example is opening stratght in Vegas with no problems. Second example stream can't be open in Vegas.

First question is: why Vegas can't open this HD .ts file?

Yes, I can convert this stream and open in Vegas with no problem. But I would like aviod conversion to save time.

.ts means Transport Stream.

Transport streams contain expected structural errors. Sometimes lots of them, such as your broadcast captures.

Nonlinear editors, of which Vegas is one, can't do bidirectional real-time analysis to trap the errors in an interframe-encoded stream.

So, corrupt frames are passed or if enough frames are corrupt, the nonlinear editor vomits. It's pretty much that simple.

Handbrake probably should have choked on your file too, but the decoder may be a bit more robust.

A piece of software called Videoredo will fix stream errors, reindex GOPs, and resync without re-encoding good frames, making it a bit better than Handbrake if you'll be working with more footage of this type.

Oh, remember that player performance is neither an indicator nor does it rule out the presence of stream errors. In other words some really bad footage may play fine - - it just can't be edited without some initial repairs.
