Yes, a high bit float project foregoes locked endpoints. Great for grading still scans and simulated hdr as I discovered in Photoshop 6 (1996, not CS6).

Again, is the convenience worth the codestructive collateral I've encountered in Vegas since (V2?)?. For me the answer has always been "no," and I have already thanked fifonik for bringing it to the forefront again, if in an obscure manner.

In fact, I have "actioned" some big 8 bit image sequence files from Vegas in Photoshop to exploit this feature, and I'm glad that it is getting new attention in the light of rec 2020 for the masses.

Thanks again for the regular reality checks, Marco. We've spoken the same language, for years I suspect.

Then again if hypercreative types are grading outside the confines of their preleveled 8 bit source for an 8 bit render, they simply deserve what they get.

IOW, they could be a little more careful of what they wish for.
